The Strategy for Change:
A Summit on Talent Development & Meaningful Actions
An effective response to our talent development crisis necessitates the engagement and dialogue of multiple sectors including
education, academia, and business. The corporate community, as leading innovators and employers, plays a particularly important role
in this conversation. Recognizing this, NAGC recently formed a Corporate Advisory Council (CAC) to infuse their perspective as a
means of better defining the scope of this problem and creating viable solutions—both public and private—that must be pursued.
In early 2015, NAGC plans to bring together relevant stakeholders for an inaugural “Summit on Talent Development.” This event will
build upon previous symposiums, reports, and recommendations to define the steps needed to launch a renewed commitment to
nurturing high level talent and potential, similar to what our nation did successfully a half-century ago following the “Sputnik
Moment,” which spurred a national commitment to developing high-level talent in math and science.
NAGC will convene a Pre-Summit planning dialogue as part of its 2014 Annual Conference in Baltimore to gather a range of
perspectives as to what such a commitment might look like. During a half-day session on November 12th, NAGC will hear from key
leaders across multiple sectors (state officials, business leaders, and researchers) on a range of critical issues that will help to define
the framework and agenda for the 2015 Summit. The Pre-Summit will conclude with a period of audience participation so invited
guests have the opportunity to contribute to the shaping of the 2015 Summit and its outcomes. An outline of this half-day session is
provided below:
