CERTIFICATION CHAIR Position Summary: Manage the chapter’s certification study program. Encourage members to become certified and recertified. Increase the number of chapter members who are certified PHR/SPHR/GPHR by the HR Certification Institute. Responsible To: The members of the chapter The chapter president State council certification director Responsibilities: Lead, plan, and arrange for speakers and materials at the certification study group meetings. Make announcements about benefits of certification and/or provide newsletter copy or web site text on benefits. Provide information about the chapter’s certification study group at membership meetings and in the newsletter. If there is no chapter study group, provide information to members about alternative study methods. Recognize at meetings those who pass the test. Forward a list of HR Certification Institute-certified members to the chapter membership roster chair and newsletter chair for publication. Provide information about recertification to members including online tracking program. Provide information about any changes in recertification requirements, changes in exam policies, changes in cost of exam, etc. Work with the chapter program chair to secure HR Certification Institute approved-for-credit status for applicable chapter programs. Maintain communication with the state council certification director and the HR Certification Institute staff as needed. Participate in SHRM/HR Certification Institute Core Leadership Area conference calls and webcasts. Participate in the development and implementation of short-term and long-term strategic planning for the chapter. Represent the chapter in the human resources community. Attend all monthly membership and board of directors meetings. Requirements: Must be an SHRM member in good standing for entire term of office. This toolkit will help you promote certification to your members. Goals: 1. Provide content to the website administrator and/or the communications director for the website regarding the advertising and marketing of the value of certification. Advertise the exam windows, deadlines, study materials, tips and techniques for sitting for an exam, resources, and avenues for study groups (DACC for example). 2. Gather testimonials from local certified professionals to publish onto the website and social media outlets as a value-add. 3. Recognize newly certified members at monthly chapter meetings. Create a certification section on the website and recognize newly certified and anniversaries of tenured certified individuals. 4. Set up training sessions / study groups. 5. Recruit new members and/or non-certified HR professionals to attend study groups (either to present or take part in study in order to sit for upcoming test windows). 6. Work collaboratively with State Council certification director and chapter president to set goals, identify marketing techniques, communicate the value of certification, and promotional and discount ideas for members who are paying for professional development through certification with personal funds. 7. Give updates to members during monthly Chapter Meetings. 8. Document best practices / SOPs in order to provide chapter succession planning to the next incoming president by Q4 of current year.
