NOMINATING COMMITTEE IS NAMED The Nominating Committee for the 2015 Annual Election Jim Donathen, Larry Yuhasz, Pam Agostinelli, T.J. Burch, Vince Zaleski Chairman (Warden) Cris Hicks. The committee seeks nominations from the congregation of eligible candidates to run in the election to be held in January in order to fill the terms expiring at the 2015 January annual meeting currently held by Vestrypersons Becky Welte, Ellie Yuhasz, Melinda Rath-Sanderson and Warden Bruce Davidson. Should you wish to nominate one or more candidates, or should you wish to be placed in nomination yourself, please make your desire known to any of the above-mentioned members of the Nominating Committee by phone, text, email, or in person. Eligible candidates for vestry must be active members of the Parish in good standing (‘good standing’ defined as: “All communicants of the Church who for the previous year have been faithful in corporate worship, praying, and giving for the spread of the Kingdom of God”), 21 years of age or more belonging to the Parish who have been baptized and regular attendants at its worship and contributors to its support for at least 12 months. Eligible candidates for warden must further have served for at least one year as a Vestryperson of the Parish at any time. For a more detailed description on the expectations of a vestry member once in office, please contact any of the committee members, or read from the copy “Expectations Of A Vestry Member” posted to the church bulletin board in the Reception Room. 3 CALVARY KNITTERS- Happy Knitting! We are requesting warm, hand-knitted hats, gloves/mitten and scarves from our talented Calvary knitters. Each Christmas the Outreach Committee prepares gift bags for single, adult refugees (both males and females) who are spending their first winter in Western New York. There is a supply of yarn available in the white cabinet in the reception room. This year we will be presenting gift bags to 52 individuals, so we need as many gloves/mittens, hats and scarves as you can produce. If you don’t knit, we will also accept (new) store bought hats, scarves and mittens/gloves. Please leave finished items at the reception desk addressed to Janet Mather by Friday, December 5. Questions: Please call Janet at 839-1309 (mather@buffalo.edu). FROM THE PLANNED GIVING COMMITTEE During this year’s Stewardship Campaign, as you consider your pledge for 2015—your Annual Giving, please also consider how you might include Calvary’s Endowment Fund in your estate plans Your Final Gift to Calvary that will help ensure the viability of the parish for generations to come. For more information about remembering Calvary in your estate plans, please contact Patty Rooss, Elizabeth Harten, or any member of the Planned Giving Committee. 2015 OFFERING ENVELOPES ARE READY Offering envelopes for 2015 are on the table at the back of the church. 4 OUTREACH / #30- THE CHRISTMAS MITTEN TREE IS UP!!!! It’s as easy as 1-2-3. Take a mitten from the tree. Sign your name and phone number in the binder(s). Bring the UNWRAPPED gift in a box (INCLUDING MITTEN) back to Calvary and put under the tree. THAT’S IT!! WHY NOT WRAPPED? This season we are giving the Summit Program an opportunity to wrap all of the gifts as a way to involve them with Outreach to School #30. *2nd GRADE: hat, mittens or gloves, scarf for each boy or girl and a book of their choice. 4TH GRADE: Navy sweater and a book of their choice (part of school uniform). Deadline for returning the mitten tree gifts: December 7 A table will be set up before/after each service with Outreach committee members to assist you. *Flyers will be available with information on store locations for the purchase of the Navy sweaters. Any questions, you may call Amy Gorney(871-9646), email (abel1@roadrunner.com) OR Janet Mather(839-1309), email(mather@buffalo.edu). 5 HELPING HANDS: Tis the seasons when helping hands are needed. Do you enjoy talking to Elders? Baking cookies? Singing Christmas Carols? If you answered yes to any of these questions then we can use your helping hands at Hansen House. Bakers please bake an extra batch. It has been the tradition of this ministry to spread the joy of the season by having Santa distribute cookie boxes to the other homes at Beechwood who have not been adopted by a local church. If you can make an extra batch of cookies and bring them to Calvary the afternoon of Dec. 19 please sign up in the Reception Room during coffee hour. On December 20 we will be holding our annual Family Christmas Luncheon for the families of Hansen House. We need helping hands to serve the meal, sing Christmas songs, distribute cookie boxes to the other houses at Beechwood and to interact with the families of Hansen House residents. If you would like to help at this luncheon please contact Karen Davidson at 689-4708. 6 CALVARY STAFF The Rev. John Goddard, Interim Rector x224, john.goddard@calvaryepiscopal.net The Rev. Bonnie F.
