Movie Essay
After it came out on DVD, Disaster Movie made $34,816,824 (wikipedia.com).
the plot of this movie is about a guy named Will (Matt Lanter), who is racing the clock
with his friends to somehow survive the apocalypse. The sub-plot is that Will’s
girlfriend/ex-girlfriend, Amy (Vanessa Minnillo) is trapped at a museum, because she
didn’t want to stay at his Sweet 16, even though he’s 25. Will and his friends face
hilarious fights and funnier deaths. I bought the unrated this movie at K-Mart, and
watched it 2 times that night. What makes this an exceptional film is its actors, special
effects, and the sounds.
Disaster Movie is one of my favorite movies because of the actors. Some of the
actors who portray real celebrities, look very similar to them. Some examples are the
Justin Timberlake, Jessica Simpson, Flavor Flav, and Will Smith (Hancock), characters.
The Justin Timberlake character (played by Jonas Neal) reminded me of the real J.T.,
because of the high notes he hit while singing about his famous ex-girlfriends. The
Jessica Simpson character (played by Nicole Parker) reminds me of the real Jessica,
because the way she talks. The Flavor Flav character (played by Abe Spigner) reminds
me of the real Flav, because of his hand signals and the line “Yeaaah Booooy”. Lastly,
the actor who plays Will Smith/Hancock (played by Walter Harris) reminds me of Will
Smith, because he acted like Hancock in the real movie. Also some actors don’t look like,
and act like their characters, which I find funny. For example, Wolf, Batman, and Prince
Caspian( all played by Ike Barinholtz) all were different. Wolf, from American
Gladiators, is rougher and wilder than the character in this movie. The difference between
the fake Batman is that he has a more regular voice than the character in the movies.
Also he was clumsy. Lastly the Prince Caspian character looked like a patient with
down’s syndrome, rather than what he is described in the book. Without these actors, the
movie wouldn’t be as funny as it is.
I think Disaster Movie is also one of my favorite movies because of the special
effects. In the movie, they had falling cows, and meteors. For example, when Kim
Kardashian’s character, Lisa, got crushed by a meteor, you can actually see the meteor
fall on her. In this movie, special effects are also used to help it to be more realistic.
Another example from the movie is when, Carmen Electra’s character (the hot assassin),
was shot in the head by a curved bullet. When it was penetrating her forehead, the movie
went into slow motion, and you could see it actually go into her head. Those special
effects actually made me really like those parts in the film.
The last reason I like this movie is the songs. I think my favorite song out of all is
“I’m F**ing Matt Damon”. I find the song hilarious, because it includes all of the
characters in the whole movie. My second favorite, is a medley of “We Wish You A
Merry Christmas,” “Funky Town,” and “Devoured by Vermin of Cannibal Corpse” by
the knockoffs of Alvin and The Chipmunks. If that song wasn’t in the movie, it would be
a big piece of the puzzle missing, which would have viewers confused on Juney’s (Juno)
death.
In conclusion, I think Disaster Movie is an exceptional film because of its actors,
special effects, and sounds. The actors make it better because, without them, there
wouldn’t be a movie, and they make you think the real people are on the screen. The
special effects makes it becomes more believable and funnier. Last but not least the
sounds make it better, and they will always get stuck in your head. I would recommend
this movie to someone who likes movies with humor like, Scary Movies 1, 2, and 3, Date
Movie, Epic Movie, and Dance Flick. In the future, when I watch movies about disaster,
I’ll always get smirk, thinking about this movie.
