Part-time employees comprise approximately
two-thirds of HCC employees
Generally hired for specific time period to
perform a specific “assignment”
Considered temporary and “at will” – no
guarantee of continued work

Organizational Structure

Nine-member Board of Trustees are elected and
serve staggered six-year terms, without pay

Chancellor reports to Board of Directors;
responsible for operation of entire system


 Exception: faculty paid semesterly four times during semester
Benefits Participation


Effective 9/1/04, adjunct faculty meeting
eligibility criteria and having teaching duties
only may elect to participate in ERS Health,
Dental, Life, Disability, Flexible Spending and
Long-Term Care for themselves and dependents
even though not eligible for Teacher Retirement
System.
The entire cost of coverage is the adjunct
faculty member’s responsibility.

 What benefits am I eligible for?

Not eligible for HCC benefits programs

 Am I eligible for Holiday pay?

No. Part-time employees are not covered for any paid leave; paid
only for time worked
 When and where will I receive my pay?


 All paperwork must be into HR and signed/processed
 If I get injured on the job, am I covered under
Worker’s Compensation?

Yes, report any injury to supervisor immediately

FAQs
 What do I do if I can’t make it to work?


If absent for any reason, notify department or site administrator
If faculty, a substitute must be arranged
 What if there is inclement weather?

Report for duty unless campus closes; watch news reports for
official campus closings or check HCC web site
 How many hours per week can I work as a part time
employee or adjunct professor?



Up to 19.5 hours per week or
Teach up to 9 credit hours per semester
If retired from HCC, consult on-line guidelines for work limitations.
 Can I join the Credit Union?


activities?

