RENEW Africa SEASON II : SEASON II begins in Lent 2013 What does SEASON II hold for you and your parish? 1. WEEK ONE : JESUS HEALS OUR LIVES Undergo an intense personal examination of conscience especially in relationships with others. Replacing : Pettiness; Bitterness; Self-centred; Revenge; Favouritism; Jealousy; Family resentment; Betrayal; Holding grudges With: Forgiveness; Sharing; Reconciliation ; Acceptance; Thereby achieving a fresh start; inner healing; peace Using Sacrament of Penance as a tool to achieve this. AT SUNDAY MASS: We focus on the Special Preface for the Temptations in the Desert. Before Mass give a short explanation of the fact that in Lent there are special Prefaces that tie in with themes. The Priest could sing the Preface. 2. WEEK TWO : IN CHRIST WE ARE MADE WHOLE Continuing the process of self-examination . Replacing: Pleasures of the world; Materialism; being discouraged; being depressed; Anger With: Prayer for strength; Let bygones be bygones; your sins are forgiven; mental and physical healing; made whole; feel brand new Again using the Sacrament of Penance to achieve this. AT SUNDAY MASS: Before Mass, explain the Holy, Holy and sing a new or special version. The congregation encouraged to sing it as a welcome to the Lord who comes in the Eucharist. 3. WEEK THREE : JESUS HELPS US HEAL ONE ANOTHER Examine our relationships with people: In our family; at work; in the parish and community; in our city and country. Consider that the most important vehicle for reconciliation is honest and open dialogue; move forward together with linked arms; forgive rather than demand retribution; reconcile in YOUR heart; learn to forgive each other. Again using the Sacrament of Penance to achieve this. Use the amazing Eucharistic Celebration (MASS) to see how we ask and God heals AT SUNDAY MASS: Explain the significance of and why we sing the Eucharistic Acclamation (Proclamation of Faith). Engage the congregation in singing a new version. Introduce new ones for each of the next 4 weeks and then repeat them thereafter. 4. WEEK FOUR : HEALING THROUGH ACCEPTANCE Reject the: dis-honest; corrupt; crafty; under-handed; discriminatory and those who are blind to Jesus. Promote: Inclusion (race, handicapped) ; Acceptance (Aids, other races; handicapped); Healing; Restoration; See Jesus as the Christ Use the power of the Eucharistic Celebration (MASS) to see how we ask and God heals AT SUNDAY MASS: The Celebrant could sing the entire, short, Eucharistic Prayer II to add solemnity to the celebration. If not all is sung then the Institution narrative could be chanted. 5. WEEK FIVE : IN CHRIST IS THE FULLNESS OF POWER TO HEAL Understand: the meaning of omnipotent, wonder-full, counsellor, powerful, etc. in relation to God. Eternity intersects with time. Use : Laying on of hands; Sacrament of the Sick; pray for healing for one another; put ourselves in God’s hands. AT SUNDAY MASS: Before Mass, provide an instruction to the Great Doxology and AMEN. Encourage all to sing with all their hearts this YES to the gift of the Eucharist. 6. WEEK SIX : JESUS HEALS OUR PAIN AND HELPS US TO FORGIVE Revisit how to overcome anger; resentment, etc. and how to be able forgive in the light of assistance from the Celebration of the Eucharist and the Sacrament of Confession. Woman, great is your faith!! Let it be done for you as you wish. AT SUNDAY MASS: Focus on one or two of the elements : Our Father; Prayer for Peace; Lamb of God; or Breaking of Bread; by singing them or using a new musical setting. ENJOY AND RENEW !!
