1960’s
"Windmills of Your Mind"
from The Thomas Crown Affair


Round,
Like a circle in a spiral
Like a wheel within a wheel,
Never ending on beginning,
On an ever-spinning reel
Like a snowball down a mountain,
Or a carnival balloon
Like a carousel that's turning
Running rings around the moon
Like a clock Round,
Like a circle in a spiral
Like a wheel within a wheel,
Never ending on beginning,
On an ever-spinning reel
Like a snowball down a mountain,
Or a carnival balloon
Like a carousel that's turning
Running rings around the moon
Like a clock whose hands are
sweeping
Past the minutes on its face
And the world is like an apple
Spinning silently in space
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind!
Like a tunnel that you follow
To a tunnel of its own
Down a hollow to a cavern
Where the sun has never shone
Like a door that keeps revolving
In a half-forgotten dream
Like the ripples from a pebble
Someone tosses in a stream.
Like a clock whose hands are
sweeping
Past the minutes on its face
And the world is like an apple
Spinning silently in space
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind!

I chose this song because as I was
reading it I thought of the confusion
that people go through during rough
times. People start thinking about
what might happen and what to do.
Teenagers especially go through this
transition when they hit puberty. Also
in the sixties, just like we are now,
were in a war. This song plays into
that by saying “wheel within a wheel.”
This to me means people thinking
together and becoming one.

"Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head"
from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid




Raindrops keep falling on my head
And just like the guy whose feet are too big
for his bed
Nothin' seems to fit
Those raindrops are falling on my head,
they keep falling
So I just did me some talkin' to the sun
And I said I didn't like the way he' got things
done
Sleepin' on the job
Those raindrops are falling on my, head
they keep falling
But there's one thing I know
The blues he sends to meet me won't
defeat me
It won't be long till happiness steps up to
greet me
Raindrops keep falling on my head
But that doesn't mean my eyes will soon be
turnin' red
Crying's not for me
Cause I'm never gonna stop the rain by
complainin'
Because I'm free
Nothing's worrying me.

This song reminds me of the rough times
that people were going through at this time
in the 1960’s. People were worrying about
the war along with wandering if they would
live the next day. This is similar to the
current events that are happening today.

1970’s
"It Goes Like It Goes"
from Norma Rae




Ain't no miracle being born
People doin' it everyday
It ain't no miracle growing up, ah
People just grow that way
Chorus:
So it goes like it goes
Like the river flows
And time it rolls right on
And maybe what's good gets a little bit
better
And maybe what's bad gets gone
Ah, bless the child of a working man
She knows too soon who she is
And bless the hands of a working man
Oh, he knows his soul is his.
Chorus × 2

I like this poem. This poem has a
good point to it. Everyone has a
certain responsibility and place in this
world. You can be poor, rich, or
middle class. You can be young, a
teenager, or a older person. We all
have a place in the world.

Marmalade
Reflections of my Life




The changing of sunlight to moonlight
Reflections of my life
Oh, how they fill my eyes
The greetings of people in trouble
Reflections of my life
Oh, how they fill my mind
All my sorrows, sad tomorrows
Take me back to my own home
All my cryings (all my cryings)
Feel I'm dying, dying
Take me back to my own home
(Oh I'm going home)
I'm changing, arranging
I'm changing
I'm changing everything
Ah, everything around me
The world is a bad place
A bad place
A terrible place to live
Oh, but I don't wanna die

This song doesn’t really have anything to do
with my life, but more less with others. I
know people that feel this same way about
our world. They think this world is a horrible
and bad place. This song could also go
along with this day and age with some
people.

1980’s
The Sugarhill Gang
Rappers Delight

I said, a hip, hop
Hippie to the hippie
The hip, hip a hop, and you don't stop, a rock it
To the bang bang boogie, say, up jump the boogie
To the rhythm of the boogie, the beat
Now, what you hear is not a test - I'm rappin' to the beat
And me, the groove, and my friends are gonna try to
move your feet
See, I am Wonder Mike, and I'd like to say hello
To the black, to the white, the red and the brown
The purple and yellow. But first, I gotta
Bang bang, the boogie to the boogie
Say up jump the boogie to the bang bang boogie
Let's rock, you don't stop
Rock the rhythm that'll make your body rock
Well so far you've heard my voice but I brought two
friends along
And the next on the mic is my man Hank
C'mon, Hank, sing that song

This was part of the start to the rap industry. It
added a new style. Rap became very big. Rap
today has become very big in the United States.
Rap today though has a variety of people instead of
just a couple. Rap is more of my style music. Rap
is the majority of the music that i listen to.

Tommy Tutone





Jenny, Jenny, who can I turn to
You give me something I can hold on to
I know you'll think I'm like the others before
Who saw your name and number
On the wall
Jenny, I've got your number
I need to make you mine
Jenny, don't change your number
867-5309 (867-5309)
867-5309 (867-5309)
Jenny, Jenny
You're the girl for me
You don't know me
But you make me so happy
I tried to call you before
But I lost my nerve
I tried my imagination but I was disturbed
Jenny, I've got your number
I need to make you mine
Jenny, don't change your number
867-5309 (867-5309)
867-5309 (867-5309)

This song was a HUGE hit. I still here my
mom talk about it and sing it sometimes. It
was on the news a while back that people
have payed thousands of dollars so that
they can have this number for themselves.

1990’s
Sir Mix-A-Lot
Baby Got Back


Oh, my god Becky
Look at her butt
It is so big
She looks like one of those rap guys` girlfriends
Who understands those rap guys
They only talk to her because
She looks like a total prostitute, okey
I mean, her butt
It`s just so big
I can`t believe it`s so round
It`s just out there
I mean, its gross
Look, she`s just so black
(Rap)
I like big butts and I cannot lie
You other brothers cannot deny
That when a girl walks in with an itty, bitty waist
And a round thing in your face
You get sprung
Wanna pull up front
`Cuz you notice that butt was stuffed
Deep in the jeans she`s wearin`
I`m hooked and I can`t stop starin`
Oh, baby I wanna get with ya
And take your picture
My homeboys tried to warn me
But with that butt you got me so horny
Ooh, all of that smooth skin
You say you wanna get in my benz
Well use me, use me
`Cuz you ain`t that average groupie

This became a big hit. The 90’s was a
huge breakthrough for the music
industry. This song will be a song that
will still come up later in life. Some
rappers have come up with other
lyrics based on this song.

Vanilla Ice
Ice Ice Baby



Yo, Vanilla
Kick it one time, boy
Yo, VIP, let's kick it
Ice, ice baby, ice, ice baby
All right stop, collaborate and (listen)
Ice is back with my brand new (invention)
Something grabs a hold of me tightly
Flow like a harpoon daily and nightly
(Will it ever stop) yo, I don't know
Turn off the lights and I'll glow
To the extreme I rock a mic like a vandal
Light up a stage and wax a chump like a
candle
(Dance) go rush the speaker that booms
I'm killing your brain like a poisonous
mushroom
(Deadly) when I play a dope melody
Anything less than the best is a felony
Love it or leave it, you better gain (way)
You better hit bull's eye, the kid don't (play)
If there was a problem, yo, I'll solve it
Check out the hook while my DJ revolves it

This song was one of the many big
hits of the 1990’s. This was a one hit
artist of the 90’s. This song is still
played today in some places.
Personally between the beastie boys
and Vanilla ice is what got white
people started with the hip/hop
industry.

2000’s
8th Of November
Big & Rich

Said goodbye to his momma as he left South Dakota To
fight for the red, white and blue He was 19 and green
with a new M-16 Just doing what he had to do He was
dropped in the jungle where the choppers would rumble
With the smell of napalm in the air And the sergant
said...look up ahead Like a dark evil cloud, 1,200 came
down on him and 29 more They fought for their lives but
most of them died in the 173rd Airborne [Chorus:] On
the 8th of November the angels were crying As they
carried his brothers away With the fire raining down and
the hell all around There were few men left standing that
day Saw the eagle fly through a clear blue sky 1965, the
8th of November Now he's 58 and his pony tail's gray
But the battle still plays in his head He limps when he
walks but he's strong when he talks About the Shrapnel
they left in his leg He puts on a gray suit over his
Airborne tattoo And he ties it on one time a year And
remebers that fallen as he orders a tall one And
swallows it down with his tears

This song is a great country song That talks
about a boy going off to war. This could be
me one day as I ponder the thought of
maybe going off to the navy or national
guard.

A Good Man
Emerson Drive


I don?t need a whole lot of money But I wouldn?t turn a
lottery down I just need a little green in my pocket So I
can buy my buddies a round All I want is a place to lay
my head with the woman I love lyin? in my bed Kind of
understated My dreams aren?t that complicated? I
wanna be the one When all is said and done Who lived
a good life, loved a good wife, and always helped
someone in trouble On the day they lay me down I want
everyone to gather ?round And say he was a father,
brother, neighbour and a friend He was a good man! I
used to dream of being a rock star And seein? the world
in style Used to dream of havin? a fast car And driving
that miracle mile But I?ve heard tales those streets
aren?t paved in gold They?re full of pot holes and
empty souls Who never learn? Love is something you
gotta earn I wanna be the one When all is said and
done Who lived a good life, loved a good wife, and
always helped someone in trouble On the day they lay
me down Want everyone to gather ?round And say he
was a father, brother, neighbour and a friend He was a
good man! When I?m gone, I wanna leave a legacy Of
love and laughs and honesty behind me Behind me?
This song makes me think of how everyman
or woman would like the world to see them.
I’de deffinetly want the people I love and
care for to think I was a good man that
would do anything for anybody. This is what
all of America should want.

Dedications

I’d like to thank my family first. They have always been there to
lead me in the right direction. They have not gave up on me and
have been a huge influence on my life. I would like to thank my
friends for giving that extra advice and comfort when I needed it. I
would also like to thank our American troops for risking there lives
to keep our freedom and country.
