8th Grade Bi-Weekly Vocabulary Schedule For the most part, the Vocabulary Enrichment schedule will not change (rain, sleet, snow or shine- we will not deviate from the schedule; the work needs to go home every night and come to class everyday. If you are absent, your work is still due- this is considered a long-term assignment). However, students will need to pay close attention to assignments for Building Vocabulary with Roots, as this will be determined by the teacher each week based on what is completed during class time. We have broken the work into manageable chunks for you; you may, of course, choose to break it down further and do a little bit each night. Avoid procrastination! Front Last Name Back U1.1 Vocabulary Word Part of Speech Complete Definition (include all definitions provided) Quizlet: www.quizlet.com Quizlet is an online tool that students may use in lieu of paper flashcards. If you choose to use this option, follow the directions below carefully. 1. Create your flashcards and print your user profile. The printed user profile must include YOUR name in the URL. Your printed user profile is due the same day as the traditional flashcards (first Tuesday) 2. Study the words using the various Quizlet tools a minimum of three times BEFORE the day of the quiz. Quizzes: The quizzes will include spelling, matching the definition, completing the sentences, creating new words with roots, prefixes, and suffixes and finally context sentence writing. How to study for a Quiz: Studying for an hour the night before the quiz is not nearly as effective as studying just 10-15 minutes each night (or even very other night) beginning on the first Monday. This is the best way to move information into your long-term memory. Context sentence writing is the best practice because it requires critical thinking. Quiz yourself or have someone quiz you, using the flashcards. Play some of the games or practice activities on Quizlet. Practice spelling the words by writing them each a minimum of 5 times. Use the words in conversation, in your writing, and at home at the dinner table. Try to make associations, connections, or use visual imagery.
