LAB
Lab 5.1 Complete a Chat Session with your group, or others. You can use Blackboard or
a tool of your choosing. Remember, everyone in your group has to have access to the
tool you choose. Everyone in the class can use Blackboard. Under Communication and
Collaboration, select the Online Chat Lab. Take a screen shot showing your chat
session. Try some different things during your chat session, for example
 Try to record all or part of your session
 During your chat with your group, see if you can establish a “private
message” with one member of your group. This is like talking off line from
your group to one person.
Lab 5.2: Perhaps you have already joined a Social or Business network. If so, take a
screen of your page and submit it to me. If not, please join Facebook and set up a basic
profile. Once you have done this, invite a friend(s) to join your network.
You can either invite your group members, or you can invite me as a friend. In either
case, take a screen shot of your page and submit it to me. Go to www.facebook.com to
join. You can invite your group members but need to know the email they used to create
their account. You can invite me by using my id, w.shepard@csuohio.edu. Again, try as
many things as possible. Write on someone’s wall, invite a friend, un-invite someone,
try to send someone a picture. Try as many items as you can find on the screens.
Lab 5.3: Search the blogs available in the blogosphere looking for something of interest
to you. There are blogs for about everything you can think of. Sign onto Google, then
under Blogs, you can search for keywords. You might want to search for a hobby,
political item, work/school related areas like accounting or nursing, etc. Try a couple of
searches just to see what is out there. Take a screen shot of your search results.
Lab 5.4: Set up a blog discussing your favorite hobby, professional knowledge, college
issues, any points of interest in your life. Start at Google, click on “more”, then “even
more” and look for Blogger.
Under Settings, Permissions, set up the following page appropriately.
Select “Only people I choose”, then open your blog up to me for review, or to your group.
My Gmail account and what you would need to invite me is wshepard72@GMAIL.COM.
Authors are people that can write directly to your blog, others can view it and leave
comments.
Pick a layout for your blog
Add a Gadget to you Blog for fun…
Or maybe something more serious…..
Don’t worry about adding pictures, we’ll do that later.
Pick a color scheme……
Now the hard part, post something…
Don’t forget to send me your blog address so I can visit and check your work. Take a
screen shot as well of you final product.
Lab 5.5: Set up an account on Twitter, invite either your group membes to join (Email
address required), or invite me to join by using wshepard72@gmail.com. Take a screen
shot of your Twitter page.
