Force and Motion Poems
Gravity
(to the tune, "London Bridge is Falling Down")
Chorus:
Gravity is pulling down,
Pulling down, pulling down,
Gravity is pulling down
All around you!
Take a ball and toss it high.
Will it stay in the sky?
Gravity will pull it down
All around you.
Chorus:
Gravity is pulling down,
Pulling down, pulling down,
Gravity is pulling down
All around you!
Jump up high and down you'll go.
There's a force down below.
Gravity is pulling down
All around you.
Chorus:
Gravity is pulling down,
Pulling down, pulling down,
Gravity is pulling down
All around you!
The Push-and-Pull Song
(sung to the tune, "Row, Row, Row Your Boat")
Push, push, push your cart,
Gently through the store.
Fill it full of lots of things,
Then let's add some more.
Pull, pull, pull your sled,
Gently through the snow.
Let's get on and zip on down.
How fast can we go?
Push, push, push the boat,
As the wind does blow
Over the ocean and into the sails,
To make the sailboat go.
Pull, pull pull the flag,
As the wind goes by.
Pull the flag to make it flap,
Look how proud it flies!
Push, pull, to make it move,
Try it and you'll see.
Things move with a push or pullEven you and me!
On the Move
(to the tune, "Turkey in the Straw")
If you want to move a ball
from here to over there,
You can kick it with your foot
and send it through the air.
If the ball's too heavy,
don't you despair.
Make a ramp, sent it rolling.
It will get over there.
Push it or pull it.
Move it everywhere.
Roll it down, throw it up,
high into the air.
Try a magnet or a lever
and your moving will improve.

Sneakers
Rubber soles?
They're there
Lots of lace?
They're there
I understand,
so I don't slip.
I understand,
so I won't trip.
Nice high tops? I understand,
They're there so I won't wobble.
Arch supports? I understand,
They're there so I won't hobble.
Red or blue? I understand,
These match my running suit.
Stripes or dots? I understand,
They're fun, they're weird, they're
cute.
But "sneakers"? I don't understand.
Were they really designed for
sneaking?
Basketball sneaking? Or tennis
sneaking?
It confuses me, in a manner of
speaking.

Michael Built a Bicycle
Michael built a bicycle
unsuitable for speed,
it's crammed with more accessories
than anyone could need,
there's an AM-FM radio,
a deck to play cassettes,
a refrigerator-freezer, and a pair of
TV sets.
There's a desk for typing letters
on his fabulous machine,
a stall for taking showers,
and a broom to keep things clean,
but you'll never see him ride it,
for it isn't quite complete,
Michael left no room for pedals,
and there isn't any seat.

Magnet Poems
Did You Ever See a Magnet?
(sung to the tune, "Did you ever see a Lassie?")
Chorus:
Did you ever see a magnet, a magnet, a magnet?
Did you ever see a magnet pull this way and that?
On iron and steel, its pull is unreal!
Did you ever see a magnet pull this way and that?
Chorus:
Did you ever see a magnet, a magnet, a magnet?
Did you ever see a magnet pull this way and that?
A magnet has action, it's called an attraction!
Did you ever see a magnet pull this way and that?
Chorus:
Did you ever see a magnet, a magnet, a magnet?
Did you ever see a magnet pull this way and that?
Magnets
I am a mighty magnet,
I can be very strong.
But if you use me exactly right
Nothing can go wrong.
I can pick up many objects
But not everything you see,
I only pick up objects
That are attracted to me.
So take me now and try me out
And you will quickly see,
What different kinds of things
Are pushed and pulled by me.
