☻Tripoli needed money so they asked
Jefferson and he refused and they cut
down the flag at the American consulate.
☻With this, it began the War with Tripoli.
☻Jefferson closed off any way to get to
Tripoli by land or by sea.
☻They decide upon $60,000 not to start any
war again over money again.
Freedom of the sea’s
☻Riding the waves for four successful years
as president, Jefferson won reelection
easily in 1804.
☻United states depended on the sea for
mostly every thing they traded.
☻Now it was a challenge at sea.
☻Many of the United states ships were
sailing freely at sea.
Embargo Act
☻Prohibits trade with another country.
☻The target of this act was Britain.
☻This act had other reason to, other one’s

War Fever
☻James Madison did not take office as
president, but under favorable commands.
☻The nation was in an embargo crisis.
☻So this keep the right of Britain of owning
American ships.

Frontier Conflict
☻White settler’s pressed for more land.
☻This could have put a halt onto the native
American’s movement.
☻No one nation had the right to give it

War Hawks and Declaring war
☻War hawks come from the south-west.
☻War Hawks pressured the president to
declare war against Britain.
☻By the spring of 1812 Madison went to
war with Britain.
☻By this time the Britain guard ended the
search and seizures.
War Begins
☻By this time the war hawks didn’t get a
fast and easy victory.
☻The American’s got ready for war.
☻The state’s had over 50,000 militia.
☻The Americans’ also underestimated the
British army.
Naval Battle’s
☻Oliver Hazard Perry, commander of the
lake Erie naval forces had his order’.
☻He wants' to fleet and seize the lake from
the British.
☻This all went down on September 10,
1813.
☻October 5, the great leader Tecumseh
was killed.
British Offensive
☻British fortunes improved in the spring.
☻They have been fighting a war with
napoleon.
☻Napoleon had won.
☻Now they could send forces to America.
Defected at Plattsburgh, war end’s.
☻10,000 British solider enter new York.
☻The British thought the war was costly.
☻Napoleon was defeated.
☻ Ended in December of 1814.
American Nationalism
☻Started in 1814.
☻This gave us the respect of other
countries.
☻They favorite trade.
☻They tried to start this in 1812.
