OZONA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Pinellas County Schools Home of the Ospreys June 2, 2015 Volume XXIX, No. 11 Belinda Atkins, Principal - 724-1589 Jessica Downes, Assistant Principal – 724-1589 Dr. Michael A. Grego, Superintendent – 588-6000 Pat Wright, Area I - Superintendent – 588-5022 Principal’s Message: Dear Parents, I want to celebrate a very successful school year at Ozona Elementary. Our teachers, students and parents have accomplished so much! When I reflect upon the events that were provided at the school this year I am just amazed at the great amount of fun and community building we have had. I do want to highlight some that were either through the school, PTA or a joint venture: The opening of school was the smoothest, meet and greet for students, Family Fun Night, Fall Festival, Walk A Thon, Book Fairs, Mother’s Day cakes, All Pro Dads, Thresher’s and Blue Jays games , Chorus performances, and more. This could not be possible without the support of our PTA! Thank you for another successful year! Another “shout out” goes to my wonderful staff. They work tirelessly to create a high engaging learning environment. In addition to what they do in the classroom, many of them gave additional time and participated in our before and after school enrichment programs, which has grown substantially this year. We served over two hundred and fifty students and gave them extra support or enrichment! I am honored to work with the teachers at Ozona! As summer approaches, I know that some great family fun is coming your way! Don’t forget to keep those brains working too!! PCS has put together a terrific learning calendar filled with great activities and reading logs to have fun and learn all at once. As a bonus, the school that returns the most logs in the fall will get a MEDIA CENTER MAKE OVER!! I would love to see Ozona recognized and get to celebrate this with all of our students. This has been such a wonderful first year as your principal. I want you to know that it is an honor to serve your children and to work with such fantastic and involved families, I am so thrilled with the relationships that have been built so far. You have all assisted me in learning the ropes and I will continue to grow as we work together. Thank you for trusting Ozona with your children and partnering with the school to create successful learners. I am looking forward to many, many more years of working together for the good of our kids! Happy Summer! Respectfully, Belinda Atkins, Principal Assistant Principal’s Message: Dear Parents, This year has flown by. We are now at the end of another fabulous year here at Ozona. We will be sending home Summer Calendars for all students grades K-4. Our district Reading, Math and Science departments have taken time to put together this wonderful calendar. Each day has a small activity to complete to help keep our students focused on learning. Please encourage your child to complete a small daily piece of the calendar each day over the summer. We will be collecting the calendars when your child arrives back to school in the fall. Enjoy your summer and thank you for a wonderful year! Did you know you can also add artwork to the gallery? Anything your child makes at home can also be digitally uploaded to the site. If you haven’t signed up, don’t worry…at the beginning of next school year, I will resend forms for students who haven’t signed up yet. What can I say???!!! What an awesome year we have had learning, experiencing, sharing, and exploring the world of the Inventive Processes. The first Ozona Invention Convention was a success. We shared some very unique and creative ways to solve problems through the use of a new inventions with the entire school during Student Showcase. Two of the fifth graders had their inventions compete in the Pinellas County Invention Convention. Two of our students, Wolfgang and Jenna , were chosen to display their inventions at the Armed Forces Military Museum which sponsored the Invention Convention. Out of forty-six inventions in the competition, Jenna received a second place. Congratulations to her!! It was another fantastic year for our Projects of Worth. The third, fourth, and fifth graders are asked each year to complete a community service project, and present the outcome to their gifted classes. The purpose of these projects is for the students to choose some way to help make their neighborhood and/or community a better place, and to make a difference!!! That is exactly what we did!!!!! These projects were on display in the Serendipity Center the night of Student showcase. “Good bye may seem forever. Farewell is like the end.
