Broderson 1 Josie Broderson Ms. Gardner Honors English 1˚ 9 November 2012 English monologue: Clara del Valle Hola, compañeros. Me llamo Clara del Valle, y yo soy de Sud América. Greetings everyone. My name is Clara del Valle, and I’m from South America. You should know that I have the ability to speak to spirits; I see them all around me, and I will always see them. At first, no one really believed me, until they saw that I could predict the future accurately as well. By the age of ten, both my parents and my older siblings were used to my clairvoyant nature. My oldest sister, Rosa, was unique as well. She was beautiful, more than anyone could imagine. She had nearly transparent, ivory-colored skin skin and she was born with green hair. No wonder her fiancé, Esteban Trueba, fell for her. They would have been happily married, but I guess her fiancé decided to work in the mines first to raise some money. It was going to be a lovely relationship, even though she didn’t think of him much. But during the time he was in the mines, there was a terrible tragedy in my house. I had seen that there was going to be an accidental death in the family. I should have been able to see who it was. I could have saved a life if I had known who it was. What were we going to tell Esteban? Who did we find dead? Rosa. Rosa the Beautiful. The doctors said that she drank a poisoned beverage that was meant for my father. I still don’t believe anyone would do anything like that. I must have been some part of the problem. It must have been because I foresaw it. After seeing the body of my sister being... cut open, with her intestines on a plate next to her, after watching my golden-eyed, ivory-skinned, green haired sister being prepared for burial, my Broderson 2 unexplainable guilt and horror filled my body up with a great silence. I stopped talking for the next nine years. Ahora, tengo diecinueve años. Now I’m nineteen years old. It has been a few days since I have started speaking. The only reason I started speaking again was to inform my parents that I was going to get married to Rosa’s fiancé. He is going to propose to me in a few weeks. There’s no reason to resist the inevitable. We are going to have a very successful marriage.
