MS Pre-Algebra B www.AdvancedAcademics.com Course Description MS Pre-Algebra B is the second segment of a series of two courses designed to prepare students for more advanced work in Algebra I. The course emphasizes concepts such as solving linear equations, graphing linear equations, angles, two- and three-dimensional geometry, integrating algebra with geometry, and data, statistics, and probabilities. The course offers graphics, explanations, and practice exercises before formative assessments. Students are required to read excerpts from Math Trek: Adventures in the MathZone by Ivars Peterson and Nancy Henderson, which can be found at your local library. Course Objectives When you finish this course, you will be able to: Solve multi-step equations and inequalities Graph ordered pairs, relations, and equations Find the slope of a line Graph linear equations Draw a scatter plot and determine the line of best fit Classify angles, lines, and polygons Identify and measure various types of angles Find perimeters of various geometric figures Distinguish between geometric transformations Determine the area of various two-dimensional figures Determine the surface area and volume of various three-dimensional figures Display and interpret data Find probabilities and odds of events Determine effective methods of choosing a sample to estimate a population Course Assignment Values Assignment Type Points Possible 16 Assignments Weight 80 pts 32% 6 Activities 60 pts 24% 2 Discussions 6 Unit Tests 10 pts 60 pts 4% 24% 1 Midterm Exam 18 pts 7% ©2012 Connections Education LLC. A learning session is a 45-minute period of time. This course should take approximately 90 learning sessions to complete, but this schedule is just a suggestion. You may work on each unit at your own pace, completing as many learning sessions as you’d like in one sitting. However, keep in mind that you must finish the entire course within the time specified by your school district.
