Basic Science Compensation Plan
• Two components to salary:
• Academic Salary – cannot be reduced; at start of plan,
faculty salary became the academic salary
• Variable component - negotiated each year with the
chair - typically $5-15K not formula driven. Based on
salary recovery from grants, outstanding teaching, special
service
• Academic salaries increase with state increase
• Variable component can go up or down, but not intended to
change rapidly with new grant applications
• Total salary cannot go down more than 15% in one year.
• Existing faculty can opt out of this, but all new faculty must
participate.
Clinical Compensation Plan
• Three components to salary:
• Academic Base Salary – 7 year average of the AAUP
Faculty Salary Survey published in Academe.
• Productivity component - negotiated initially and is
reviewed each year with the chair and can be adjusted up
or down based on Clinical Duties, RVU’s and salary
recovery from grants, outstanding teaching, special
service
• Contingent supplemental payments - can be paid out
Quarterly, or Semi-Annually, or Annually depending on
the faculty’s member’s clinical productivity based on
measurable criteria and the department’s financial
stability.
• Variable component can go up or down, but not intended to
change rapidly.
• Total salary cannot go down more than 15% in one year due
to the financial condition of the department.
