American History 101/102 Course Syllabus Instructor: Stephanie Ladd Room #: 1013 Course/Semester: American History 101/102, 11-12 grades, 2 semesters Plan hour: 5th hour Work phone: 224-1315 Email address: sladd@bssd.net Textbook: America’s History (6th Edition Combined Version) Henretta, Brody, Dumenil Replacement cost-$114.95 Course description: This is a chronological review of American history (Exploration through Reconstruction 1st semester, Gilded Age through the 1970s 2nd semester) taught on the college level. The course may be taken for three hours of college credit provided students meet the minimum entrance requirements of UMKC. The course will be taught primarily by lecture/discussion methods with additional reading and research required. An additional weighted/honor point may be earned if this course is successfully completed. The UMKC fee is required. Students will be billed directly by UMKC. Students who withdraw after the first five days will still be billed by UMKC and will have to pay some portion of tuition fees to UMKC. Students who successfully complete both American History 101 and 102 (2 semesters) can fulfill the US history graduation requirement. Grading scale: This course uses the standard grading scale as printed in the student handbook. Attendance policy: This course follows the attendance policy as outlined in the student handbook. Tardy policy: This course follows the tardy policy as outlined in the student handbook. Make-up policy: Make-up work for excused absences will follow the policy in the student handbook. Late work or work from unexcused absences will be accepted for half credit. Major assignments: Assignments other than regular homework will be due on the date assigned regardless of whether the student is in attendance on the due date. Major assignments turned in after the due date will be accepted for half credit. Academic Dishonesty: This course follows the academic dishonesty policy outlined in the student handbook. Required materials: Students will be issued the required textbook for this course. Students are expected to arrive with a book, pen, and paper each day prepared to engage in the planned activities.
