MTLC FACULTY RESEARCH GRANTS
I.
DEFINITION
For the purpose of awarding faculty research grants, the Mobile Technology Learning Center will require that the
stated objective of the research/scholarship is the creation of a substantial scholarly product related to mobile
technology use in education. Therefore, projects should be designed to achieve one or more of the following
three goals:
1) Further understanding of how mobile technology can be used to enhance PK-12 student learning.
2) Further understanding of how students in Learning and Teaching courses can be effectively introduced to
best practices for mobile technology teaching and learning.
3) Add to the body of research knowledge relating to mobile technology in PK-12 education.
Fostering collaboration between USD faculty, PK-12 educators, and PK-12 enrichment programs is a priority for
the MTLC, so dissemination of research findings to the educational community is expected of all faculty research
grant recipients.
II.
ELIGIBILITY
Only tenured and tenure-track faculty members at the University of San Diego shall be eligible for faculty research
grants through the Mobile Technology Learning Center. Preference will be given to proposals submitted by
Learning and Teaching Department faculty.
III.

completing project activities will be disseminated to key constituents.
5) Tentative Timeline for Project Completion: The timeline should include major milestones, along with a
description of how the project goals will be achieved within the proposed time frame.
6) Partner/s: Please list individuals who will play a key role in implementing or partaking in project activities.

OVERVIEW OF SCORING RUBRIC
Proposals will be reviewed by a committee comprised of a diverse set of stakeholders, including faculty members.
The merit of each proposal will be evaluated in four major areas including:
1) Potential Value: Reviewers will examine project goals and activities to determine to what extent project
outcomes are of value to the SOLES community, PK-12 Education community, and/or the Research
community.
2) Project Viability: Reviewers will consider the feasibility of achieving project goals based on the proposed
activities. The extent to which material and human resources have been adequately allocated will also be
considered.
3) Budget Request: Reviewers will assess if the amount of funds requested is commensurate to proposed
project activities.
4) Dissemination Plan: Reviewers will determine if dissemination activities are appropriate for the target
audience, which may include PK-12 teachers, students, faculty members, school administrators, the SOLES
community, and so forth.
