What’s the business all about?
The business is McKenna Precision Castings. They make high specification, high integrity, precision
castings such as medical parts, aircraft or aerospace parts, parts for body scanners and MRIs, parts
for gas turbines and oil exploration. Whilst it is a highly technical business the process is fairly
simple to understand. They start with detailed drawings of a new part, then create a wax model of
the part from these drawings. The model is then coated in ceramic and the wax inside is melted to
create an empty ceramic mould or cast. Finally liquid metal is poured into the cast and set to
produce the parts. The business is a third tier supplier with international customers in North and
South America, Taiwan, Russia, Turkey and Europe. You can find out more at

What would you be doing?
This person will support the Managing Director of the business with all aspects of sales and
marketing activity. It will be a broad, commercial, demanding role working directly with customers
and colleagues across the business. The role will be diverse and involve tasks at all levels from
basic administration through to customer research. Typical activities include:
 Research and analysis of markets, customers, competitors and prospects e.g. who is in what
markets, buying what and when
 Designing, producing and updating customer marketing materials
 Preparing for customer presentations and pitches e.g. pulling together presentations, doing
research, scheduling visits, preparing materials and papers
 Following up with leads, existing and potential customers including calls and possibly meetings
 Working with the IT department to update the website and other customer information
 Pulling together customer feedback, specification documents, quotes and contracts
 Preparing statistical information e.g. return on quotation
In the longer term this could involve you taking responsibility for customer visits, negotiation and
owning your own customer relationships to deliver real business growth into the organisation.

What type of person are they looking for?
This job is not for the faint-hearted! In summary you will thrive on challenge, learn very quickly, be
highly ambitious and have a large appetite for work. Ideally the successful person role will be:
 A graduate from a degree discipline such as business, marketing or engineering
 Bright and quick to learn about the business, it’s products, customers and processes
 Enthusiastic and positive
 Hardworking, efficient, accurate and able to get through work quickly
 A self-starter able to find solutions and make things happen on their own
 Resilient and tenacious
 Confident, competitive and ambitious
 Direct, straightforward and honest
 Good on the phone and PC
 Experienced in sales and marketing
An engineering background would be beneficial but is by no means essential.

Starting salary: £14,500pa
Location: Lawn Road Industrial Estate, Lawn Road, Carlton-in-Lindrick, Worksop, S81 9LB
Start date: Start August 2013
Length of internship: Minimum six months, ideally twelve months, with potential for a permanent role
for a good performer
