The business is McKenna Precision Castings. They make high specification, high integrity, precision castings such as medical parts, aircraft or aerospace parts, parts for body scanners and MRIs, parts for gas turbines and oil exploration. Whilst it is a highly technical business the process is fairly simple to understand. They start with detailed drawings of a new part, then create a wax model of the part from these drawings. The model is then coated in ceramic and the wax inside is melted to create an empty ceramic mould or cast. Finally liquid metal is poured into the cast and set to produce the parts.
