Preparing to move to Canada/United States
Alex wants to improve his spoken English and work on his listening skills.
Studying the English language for the purpose of moving to the United
States or Canada.
We will be working on topics that will prepare Alex for everyday life living in
the United States or Canada. Alex wants to be able to move to one of these
countries and find a job that will allow him to pay his bills while also giving
him time to work on his true passion, music. He hopes to eventually find a
career in the music business. His English for music is already quite good
though so it will not be a main focus. Therefore, Alex is interested in topics
that will help him when he first arrives in the United States or Canada, such
as looking for accommodation, restaurants, and interviewing for jobs. He is
also interested in learning more about casual English for going out to bars
and clubs and meeting people. He also cares about learning sports related
English, as he is a big fan of soccer and boxing, and is interested in
basketball as well.

10 hours – 10 lessons at
1 hour
Alex has previously studied English outside of high school, he even lived in
London for three months when he was 17. However, he has not studied it
for over 3 years now and wants to start quite basic as a refresher before
moving into the tougher grammar points. He wants at least one class
devoted to interviewing for jobs and he also wants to work on cover
letters/resumes.
Other than the cover letter/resume writing, Alex is more focused on
listening and speaking, he feels more confident with his reading than
anything else.
We will focus on formal English for work purposes and informal English for
everyday life living in North America.

postings
The assessment of his learning will be based on how responds to the
activities and worksheets done throughout the lessons. Grammar will be
assessed through his reading and writing. Pronunciation will be assessed
through the speaking exercises and listening comprehension will be
assessed through the listening exercises. The homework activities will test
his comprehension of each lesson plan and if further work is needed on
any of the subjects the lesson in which the homework is reviewed will be
used to ensure he understands the material. New material will not be
introduced until it is clear he understands the previous material.
Lessons 5 and 10 will be used to assess whether he is retaining the
information from previous lessons. Alex is most concerned with his
speaking so I will assess throughout the 10 lessons and provide feedback
throughout. His ability to use the information learned in real life situations
will be the true determination of what he has learned in the 10 lessons
though.

Notes
Alex is a basic to mid intermediate student. His writing
and reading are his strong points while he needs most
work on listening and speaking. His expectations for the
10 lessons is that afterwards he will be able to have
informal conversations in English and also be able to
interview for jobs. He also expects to be able to write
proper cover letters and resumes. Alex wants to move to
an English speaking nation, preferably Canada or the
United States, and start working there, which is why he
is interested in studying English further. Alex has good
sense of the English language but he is not comfortable
with his speaking and even in his writing he reverts to
translating things word for word. He is also interested in
music and movies and is interested in the vocabulary
surrounding those topics.
