JOB DESCRIPTION: DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS, PR and MARKETING PROFESSIONALS
Sail Training International (STI) is looking for two Digital Communications, PR and Marketing
professionals to join their Commercial Department. The positions are full time and based at STI’s
modern offices in Gosport Marina, Hampshire, UK.

PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Both roles are needed to provide digital communications, PR and marketing support and management
to shape and deliver a digital marketing strategy, communications activities for our Race and Regatta
events and internal communications.
Due to the breadth of skills required within the team we are asking interested candidates to review
the main responsibilities and person specification and apply outlining what current knowledge and
experience they have to offer in these two areas.




Social media:
Develop STI’s social media strategy, ensuring optimised content for specific channels is
regularly generated, adapted, scheduled, posted, tracked and monitored (Twitter, Facebook,
Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, Snapchat, Hootsuite)

Facilitate community engagement as well as driving in bound engagement

Analyse data, draw actionable insights and set future targets to ensure ROI

Recommend new strategies and technologies appropriate to target audience




E-magazines and blogs:
Research stories, images and video
Copywriting and interviewing
Design and layout
Online marketing
MARKETING
 Multilingual campaign development and management
 Creating, delivering and distributing multilingual marketing materials
 Commercial database updating and use
PRINT, BROADCAST AND DIGITAL MEDIA




Research, maintain and update an international media contacts database
Media handling at an international level
Expert support and media advice
Produce fresh, targeted content, quotes and briefs

Review and analyse coverage and set future targets to ensure ROI
EVENTS
 Support external PR and marketing Race and Regatta event teams
 Support timely updates of all website and social media content pre, during and after events
 Provide event communications and marketing support at events
PHOTOGRAPHY AND VIDEO
 Manage an online photo resource – editing images, uploading, categorisation and archiving
 Create, procure content and manage an appropriate video library
 Photography and video skills, including editing (Premier software)
 Manage photographer and videographer resources
DESIGN

Design skills (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
REPORTING AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
The posts will report to, and work in collaboration with, the Communications and Marketing Manager
as part of a team of three which sits within STI’s Commercial Department, which has an additional
two people. In addition to the office role there will be extensive working relationships with stakeholders
throughout the international sail training community.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
We’re looking for people with communications and marketing related qualifications, with previous
work experience within a communications and marketing role.






Very organised and able to manage and prioritise own workload
Proactive self-starter able to work under own initiative
Creative, enthusiastic and outgoing, with a confident but friendly manner
Able to take an international perspective and work easily with colleagues whose first
language is not English
Willing to occasionally travel internationally and work out of hours and at weekends
The ability and willingness to support all aspects of the organisation as part of a small team
ESSENTIAL SKILLS




Excellent written and spoken English
Proven ability to develop and deliver targeted communications for different channels and
audiences
Computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Ability to contribute to a positive, collaborative and mutually supportive team work environment
in the office and with STI’s wider stakeholder group (including young people, volunteers, host
cities, vessel operators and sponsors.)
DESIRABLE (NOT ESSENTIAL) SKILLS





Language skills
Global marketing experience and knowledge of internationalisation
Experience of marketing to 15-25 year old demographic
Knowledge of the sail training industry
Managing external agencies and third-party suppliers
REMUNERATION PACKAGE
Salary range £23,000 - £45,000 per annum + contributory pension scheme.
