Study Guide for Chapter 9 Test: Conics PreCalculus Honors The test consists of 14 questions in the usual two parts. The majority of the test does not require a calculator and will be done with the aid of the unit circle (79 points). The calculator section contains only three word problems (18 points). You will be given three points for remembering to write your name on each page. Total: 100 points. Be sure you are able to: 1) Identify the conic sections and their important attributes: center, vertices, co-vertices, foci, directrix, asymptotes. 2) Graph conic sections with rectangular and polar coordinates. 3) Write equations for conic sections in standard form. 4) Graph parametric equations by making a table and by eliminating the parameter. 5) Find sets of parametric equations to represent a given equation. 6) Solve word problems involving conics: circles, semi-elliptical arches, parabolic reflectors, hyperbolas.
