Study for Tests Step-by-Step
If your child takes organized notes, she’s one step closer to acing her next
test. She should save notes (and other materials, such as quizzes and
handouts) to review before exams. She should also:
1. Make a plan. Schedule time to prepare for the test over
several days. It’s better to study things repeatedly over time
than to “cram” before a test.
2. Review. Divide materials into logical sections. Then read them
over as a memory refresher.
3. Memorize. While reviewing, decide what could be on the test.
Use flash cards (or another method) to study this information.
4. Take a practice test. Ask questions the way they might appear
on the test. Study until they can be answered confidently.
5. Relax. Get a good night’s sleep before the test, then eat a
healthy breakfast. Take a few deep breaths and think, “I’m
prepared, I’ll do fine!”

Students are now able to register for the Middle School World Language program through the
HCPSS BSAP/K-9 Summer Institute. Rising 8th graders, who were not enrolled in world
language in grade 7, may enroll in French or Spanish this summer. Successful completion of this
course will prepare students to enroll in the appropriate grade 8 language course for the 20152016 school year. The course meets from June 29 - July 24 from 8:30am - 12:15pm at Lime Kiln
Middle School ($275). Students have the option of also registering for the afternoon enrichment
sessions with the BSAP/K-9 Summer Institute ($550).
Although this course was listed in the HCPSS Summer Catalog, it was not available on any of
the online registration forms, prohibiting students from enrolling. If you have any students
interested, please encourage them to complete the online registration form on the summer school
website.

competitive. If you can’t make all the sessions, that is fine. Students need to turn in a
signed permission slip to participate. Students must be picked up by 3:30.
Archery intramurals will begin on Monday, May, 18. If you are interested you may print
a copy of the permission slip from Mr. Blum's webpage.
http://blummvmspe.weebly.com/intramurals.html or pick one up in the gym. There will
be two, five day sessions. Please only sign up for one session.

Immunization Requirements for the 2015-2016
School Year
Students entering 7th Grade for the 2015-2016 school year are
required by the State of Maryland to have a meningitis vaccine and a Tdap vaccine by the
first day of school, August 24, 2015.
Please contact your child’s health care provider to obtain documentation of these vaccines
(if they have previously been administered) or to schedule an appointment to receive the
required vaccinations. Failure to provide proof of updated immunizations by the first day
of school next year could result in your child being excluded from school. Please turn in
the necessary documentation to the Health Room as soon as possible. Physician’s offices
may fax immunization documentation directly to the Health Room at
410-442-8050. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Health Room at
410-313-5550. Thank you!
Green Tip of The Month: Plant Butterfly Weed NOT Butterfly Bush
Butterfly bush is an invasive species that only provides nectar for butterflies. You'll
commonly see it being sold in garden centers because it does attract many butterflies.
The problem is that butterflies can't lay their eggs on butterfly bush, so it's difficult for
them to reproduce and survive.
Please think about butterflies when you choose plants for your yard. Purchase native
species like butterfly weed and Joe-Pye weed to ensure that your plants are both
beautiful AND helpful!
If you want to learn more about how to construct a butterfly garden, the Green Team
will be available at the G/T Open House on May 19th from 6:30-7:30. They can give
you a tour of Mount View's butterfly garden and answer your questions!

AFS exchange students from around the world will come to Howard County for a
life-changing year of cross-cultural sharing. Exchange students live in a family such
as yours and attend the locally district HS from your address. Host families
volunteer to provide room and board for a student and get to know a great kid and
learn more about a different part of the world. Exchange students learn about our
American culture from the inside and share about theirs. Students are available
from countries over 90 countries, including Germany, Italy, Sweden, Japan, and
Thailand. Students have interests including dance, soccer, track, choir, and scouting.
Howard County Public School's placement deadline for next year is coming up very
