Dance Syllabus: Dance Company Course: Dance Fitness Teacher: Nicki Hines School E-mail: hinesno@spart6.org Block: Third 11:41-1:16 pm Dorman High School Mission Statement The mission of Dorman High School is to provide each student with a quality education that allows them to function independently as productive members of society with a belief that learning is a lifelong activity. Course Assignments: Dance Showcase-60% exam & 40% exam day, learning dance combinations, short works, fall dance concert DHS arena, jazz, ballet, modern [beginner level], beginner dance composition, dance fitness, research project & dance appreciation. Course Dress Attire: Athletic shoes & dance shoes appropriate- flip flops/slides are not acceptable. Dance shoes-black jazz shoes are required and may be purchased at the Academy Sports Store .Foot Paws required and bought @ downtown sock basket. Sweat pants, t-shirts, shorts with spandex, yoga pants are acceptable. Grading Process : 9 weeks per semester Performance/Participation: 50 points per week: 10 points daily, 25 points per week count towards: projects, written work, short dance composition assignments, library research, dance combinations, choreography project, skills evaluation, auditions, dance clothes 2.5 points daily, proper shoes 2.5 daily 25 points per week. Behavior: (1) Warning (phone call to parent/Guardian)/ (2) Referral to principal Reference Dorman Handbook for Dorman Grading Scale Teacher Expectations: o Students are expected to dress out/participate everyday to build technique and skills. o Students should have high expectations for acquiring knowledge about dance skills and choreography skills. o Students should strive for excellence, be on their best behavior at all times, & respect teacher and parent.
