1. Students will engage in Selected Silent Reading for 30
minutes reading books on the Revolutionary War.
2. Students will make a timeline of important events
proceeding the Revolutionary War.
3. Students will make a word of the term “heritage” to find
out what it means.
4. Students will illustrate pictures that shows how lifestyles
have changed over the past two hundred years.
5. Students will create a vintage museum within the room
to display their artwork.

ACTIVITIES
1. Students will make predictions on why various culture
groups settled where their did in the New Land.
2. Students will recognize the diverse society by making
a chart describing the characteristics of different groups
and people in the community.
3. Students will participate in a dress up day displaying the
fashions of the Revolutionary time period.
4. Students will read the book, Black and White, to
understand the struggles of African Americans during this
time period.
5. Students will research the relationships between settlers
and Native Americans.

ACTIVITIES
1. Students will color in and identify the 13 original colonies on
a United States map provided by the teacher.
2. Students will use Odyssey Globe to obtain a better
understanding of the great distances the settlers traveled
in order to reach the New Land.
3. Students will explore the concept of region by using a map
to illustrate the boundaries of a neighborhood and
suggesting how it may be defined.
4. Students will create a chart to illustrate examples of air,
land, and water usage during this time period.
5. Students will cite examples of how different the colonies
satisfied wants through use of resources.

as a class discussion.

all American citizens which are contained in the Constitution.
2. Students will make mock amendments to the Constitution as
a class.

extensive research.

Revolutionary period. They will present to class.
2. Students will play the game, Oregon Trial, and like it.
3. Students will compare and contrast the different forms of
transportation.
4. Students will take a field trip to COSI, Columbus, Ohio, without
getting car sick.
5. Students will bake a cake using only human hair, sheep
pellets, and goat milk and like it.
