Every kid has the right to be a kid. That's why Special Love gives children and young adults with cancer and their families a chance to enjoy normal childhood activities that healthy kids often take for granted. From week-long camps, like Camp Fantastic and BRASS Camp (for siblings), to weekend retreats for families, teens, and young adults, Special Love's programs represent a community of support that shows kids with cancer and their families that they are not alone. http://www.specialneedskidsinfo.com/marylandlocalresources7.html

Our eight-acre campus bordering Rock Creek Park, welcomes campers to participate in a variety of fun, creative, and exploratory activities. Our respectful and caring atmosphere encourages campers, ages three to 14, to grow in self-awareness and confidence, while strengthening their cooperation and consideration for others. The groupings are deliberately small. The low teacher/camper ratio allows for a relaxed and informal environment where thoughtful teachers, who understand child development, expand campers' horizons purposefully and safely. www.lowellschool.org

Intensive Early Intervention and Preschool

CSAAC’s Intensive Early Intervention (IEI) program is an applied behavior analysis program based on a method developed by Dr. O. Ivar Lovaas at UCLA in early intervention and discrete trial training for individuals with autism. CSAAC’s IEI program serves children, age 17 months to 10, who receive between 6 to 30 hours of weekly, one-to-one intervention in their home as part of a long-term, comprehensive, and results-oriented treatment program for children with developmental disabilities.

The intervention focuses on building language, social, academic, and self-help/daily living skills and includes a licensed psychologist and special educator who lead a team of behavioral technicians, who are undergraduate and graduate psychology students. Children are taught language and social skills that children without autism learn naturally.

Aunt Hattie's Place is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a safe, stable, nurturing, and long-term home for abused, abandoned, and neglected children in foster care.

AHP currently provides a home to 22 young boys, 15-20 years old with the capacity to house 26 residents. These children, lovingly called "SuperKids", come to AHP with a wide variety of psychological and behavioral problems, as well as, poor academic records. They usually have a sense of hopelessness, lack of respect for authority, and a general negative outlook on their future. These problems typically are associated with feelings of loss and anger resulting from their parents' vicious cycle of substance abuse and/or incarceration, and are exacerbated by the stigma identified with being in foster care.

Elkind & Shea has been established to serve the needs of those who are in need of disability benefits. The practice of disability law is very complicated and requires careful attention to changing law and practices of private insurers and government agencies, especially the Social

Security Administration. This narrow focus allows our attorneys to provide our clients with the highest quality representation, information and advice concerning their rights to disability benefits. Our attorneys have successfully handled thousands of disability cases and have the requisite skill and experience to assist in any disability benefits case.

Although the firm concentrates its Social Security and state disability practice in the jurisdictions of Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia, its attorneys have engaged in long term disability work (private and ERISA) throughout the United States.

The firm works with clients to construct fee structures to suit their needs and abilities to pay.

Depending on the case, we may be able to offer a retainer agreement on a contingent or hourly basis, or even a combination of both.

Let us discuss with you how we can protect your legal rights. Our phone and e-mail consultations are free. http://www.disabilitybenefitslawfirm.com/?gclid=CPaDnLfU8rMCFQWe4AodD00A3w

Our Mission is to create a better future through brain injury prevention, education, advocacy, and promotion of research.

About our Organization

We Take Action by providing leadership and support for a wide variety of projects and programs in resource coordination, prevention, education, advocacy and self-determination.

Resource Coordination

Our resource specialists provide, free of charge, information, educational materials, resource coordination, support and hope to individuals with brain injury and their families. Our Resource Center is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 am - 5:00 pm and by appointment. We have a statewide toll-free hotline (800.221.6443) maintain a lending library and publish guides such as The Maryland Directory of Brain Injury Resources, The Brain Injury

Guidebook and LINKS, BIAM’s electronic newsletter. BIAM provides Case Management

Services and Provider Trainings throughout the State, for a fee. In addition, we assist with research dissemination and clinical trial subject recruitment.

Prevention and Awareness Programs

Each year, BIAM not only attends but hosts a variety of events to promote brain injury prevention and awareness. We participate in many health care fairs, educational forums and community and school outreach events. BIAM is proud to partner with the Brain Injury Outreach

Councils in Baltimore City/County and Western Maryland. Education Programs BIAM’s preeminent event is our Annual Two-day Educational Conference traditional held in the spring.

It is one of the largest and best attended conferences devoted exclusively to brain injury in the

Mid-Atlantic region. We also conduct seminars and trainings for healthcare and disability professionals, school systems, individuals with brain injury, family members/caregivers, and the general public.

Self Determination and Advocacy

Our efforts include advocacy on local, state and national levels. Most recently, BIAM spearheaded an initiative with many other dedicated organizations and legislators to pass legislation requiring that student athletes in Maryland be provided concussion awareness education and to be treated by professionals trained in concussion if they become injured. In addition, BIAM holds four seats on the Maryland TBI Advisory

Board and we have representation on many state and disability workgroups and taskforces. We encourage and support the numerous Brain Injury Support and

Caregiver Groups around the state.

When children are released from intensive care, but still not ready to go home, they come to The

HSC Pediatric Center to prepare to go home. For over a century, children and teens come through our doors to receive expert rehabilitative and transitional care. The HSC Pediatric Center is guided by a family-centered philosophy. We not only help the child, we work with the entire family. We take pride in providing a nurturing environment of family-centered care so that children and teens can learn, play, and grow while receiving the medical care they need. As a community health provider, we're committed to ensuring access to quality rehabilitative and specialty services to infants, children, and adolescents with special needs. The HSC Pediatric

Center is accreditted by The Joint Commission©(TJC) and CARF (The Commission on

The impetus to create the Chesapeake-Potomac Spina Bifida Association came from parents of local chapters and professionals from the regional spina bifida centers concerned about the unmet needs of their children and adults with spina bifida. The organizers met in 1993 and began an effort to create a regional association to provide coordinated medical, educational, vocational and social services to individuals with spina bifida. In 1997, the association became a 501(c) 3 organization serving individuals with spina bifida and their families in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia. http://www.specialneedskidsinfo.com/marylandlocalresources2.html
