THE partial
DIARY OF
Odysseus
Day 27 – We’ve just left the cursed island of the
Laestrygonians and we seem to be lost at sea. The men
are acting a little strange and more rebellious than usual.
They must be shocked from watching all but one of the
ships be devoured. I think if we don’t see land tomorrow,
they will most definitely do something bad…
Day 29 – after a day lost at sea, we’ve managed to find a
mysterious island with no inhabitants. I sent a group of
23 men lead by Eurylochus to scout out the interior of
the island. I hope I did the right thing sending
Eurylochus as the leader.
Day 32 – well, I think that this is a most interesting
situation we’re in. Two days ago, when I sent the
scouting team, only one returned to the ship to report, it
was Eurylochus. He told us that a witch turned all of my
men into pigs. I went to go confront the woman, but a
rather odd man with winged shoes gave me a smelly old
plant that he said would protect me. He said he was the
god Hermes, but you can’t trust everybody these days.
Well armed with the plant I talked to the witch. She sure
didn’t look like a witch – you know with the messed up
hair and nose and warts and stuff – but that’s beside the
point. Well any the beautiful witch tried to do her stuff
on me. It didn’t work due to the plant and the witch
really seemed very scared/upset. Well that’s one good
thing you can say about smelly plants. The witch
changed up her game and acted all nice and hospitable
and sorry about the pig stuff, but I saw right through
that. I considered ending her twisted magic life, but she
sure looked really sorry about turning my men into
pigs… and she sure looked really good… so I changed my
mind. She introduced herself – Circe, which kinda
sounds like a very nice person’s name. She changed the
pigs back into my men and everybody was really happy.
So we’ve been at Circe’s house for a day now, and she
hasn’t been all that mean, so I guess it’s ok if we stay for
a while and rest up.
Day ? – We’ve spent such a long time at Circe’s island, I
can’t remember what day it is of my journey. I really
want to go home to my Penelope, but this island is so
captivating, and not to mention Circe too. But I have to
get back home. My men and I begged Circe to let us
return home to Ithaca, and surprisingly said we could if I
went to the Land of the Dead and consulted the blind
prophet Teiresias. So tomorrow I’ll be sure to go down into
the land of the dead to find my destiny.
