I. PLEASE, DEFINE THE COMMUNICATION PROBLEM:
“Better investments for better health” is two year long campaign implemented and managed by
Intelday Solutions for Confederation "Protecting Health” in partnership with the Association of
the Research-Based Pharmaceutical Manufacturers in Bulgaria \ArPharm\. Confederation
"Protecting Health” is the largest patient organization in Bulgaria. It consolidates 28 patients’
organizations and has more than 55 000 members throughout the country and represents the
interests of more than 1 000 000 Bulgarian patients with different diseases, many of which are
socially important like cancer, diabetes, asthma, epilepsy, renal failure, neuromuscular diseases,
rare diseases, etc. The Confederation is a member of the European Patients' Forum and in the
September 2009 became the first nationally representative patient organization that received a
certificate from the Ministry of Health. Intelday Solutions works with the Confederation for
more than 7 years, operating and supporting their causes and campaigns. The iniciative “Better
investments for better health” began in 2008 for the enhancement of the access of Bulgarian
patients to modern and efficient medicinal therapies. With this argument and for sustainable
development in the future Intelday Solutions proposed the establishment of a new Patients`
NGOs Coalition, uniting all Bulgarian patients’ organizations, which main goal is to present a
platform for messages to the Bulgarian citizens, to protect their health rights and to generate
public support for patients` problems in Bulgaria.
II. PLEASE, SHARE YOUR STRATEGIC APPROACH:
In 2009 Intelday Solutions and ArPharm decided to allocate certain budget for selected public
health priorities, which goal is to be given under the form of grants to the Patients’ NGOs
Coalition. The proposed grants should be focused on strengthening the Bulgarian patients`
organizations as real leaders and speakers on health issues and on improvement health policy in
the country. Grant scheme was open for all patients` organizations in Bulgaria. Intelday
Solutions created all the regulations for applying for the Grants. The participants had to provide
that kind of projects which contributed to solving the real problem of access to modern drug
treatment, attached with a true patient`s story related to the particular problem and its solution.
Intelday Solutions has been responsible for producing and broadcasting short video patients’
stories for each grant.
III. PLEASE TELL US ABOUT THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE PROJECT:
For this campaign Intelday Solutions has developed creative concepts, identified key partners –
NGOs and celebrities, campaign management - lobbying, media relations and media monitoring.
We have organized a press-conference and supported web-site development.
Intelday Solutions suggested some Bulgarian celebrities to become and independent jury. We
choosed people who are very popular with their involvement in charity and health campaigns. The
Patients’ NGOs Coalition selected four people: Christina Angelakova - opera singer; Jana
Pelovska - media expert, Boyan Petrov - mountaineer and biologist, Inna Slavova – interpreter.
Intelday Solutuions together with a jury and experts specified the following criteria for
assessment. Short video patients` stories are 13 from 12 organizations and thay have been
uploaded to the site of the Confederation and YouTube. They have been examined by a jury,
which was given a brief summary of the NGO activities. The specific criteria were:
 Adequacy of the topic - a problem related to the access of the group of patients to drug
treatment;
 Specificity - projects and initiatives carried out or providing specific measures and actions
that led to improving the access of patients to drug treatment;
 Civil activity – the initiative demonstrates how the civil society works - how NGOs can
influence the processes of decision making for public interest;
 Social importance - the initiative has a positive effect on patient’ group rather than an
individual;
 Personal perspective - presented a personal story of the patient or his relative, who is
affected by the problem and its solution.
The jury selected 6 finalists granted 2000 leva each.
Intelday Solutions develop a brief and script of the video stories.
We contacted the patients and their relatives, then we shot,
edited and made the montage. Intelday Solutions also
organizated a special press conference to announce the winning
projects of the grant scheme. We produced the first certificates
given by Confederation "Protecting Health” for achievments in
the field of protection of patients` rights.
Intelday Solutions was responsible for logistics, media relations,
media kits, media monitoring.
IV. PLEASE STATE THE EFFICIENCY AND YOUR ACHIEVEMENTS:
This campaign, supported by prominent Bulgarian men, has managed and granted six projects of
the Bulgarian patients` NGOs. In 2010 they will work for improvement of access to efficient
medicinal therapies of their patiens suffering from different diseases.
