CHS CHEER GUIDELINES AND EXPECTATIONS
Congratulations on your decision to tryout for the Cheerleading Squad at Champion High School! We
hope you have made a careful choice and will find that this will be a rewarding experience. This
application packet will provide you with information pertaining to the cost, responsibilities,
requirements, and time involved in the cheerleading program. If you have any questions, please do
not hesitate to contact Coach Simpson at kimberly.simpson@boerne-isd.net
Members must work to build an image of dedicated, hard-working, positive young adults
who exemplify a team. This program functions as a family filled with determination, unselfishness and
integrity. Members will strive to improve themselves and others through positive interaction and
accountability, requiring a great deal of consideration, cooperation, and effort.
Membership is from the cheer tryout date to the last day of school the following school year*.
Membership may be terminated at anytime for unacceptable standards of conduct.

their child as a member of the squad (purchase or rent parts of the necessary uniform and

Upon arrival at first clinic your tryout number will be randomly drawn and it must be secured on the
front of your shirt at chest level throughout clinics, mock tryouts and tryouts. You will be scored by your
tryout number with Informal evaluation by coaches throughout the week, and with a Formal and final
evaluation by independent, UCA judges on the last tryout date. Percentage weights of tryout
components are indicated below in parenthesis.
Informal Evaluation (15%): Throughout the week you will be judged on ATTITUDE, EFFORT,
RESPONSIBILITY, and TECHNIQUE as well as POTENTIAL. Are you on time? Do you come prepared?
Dressed appropriately? Do you follow directions the first time given? Are you putting 110% into the
tryout every day? Does your positive attitude set you apart from others? Do you help others rise to a
higher level? Are you KIND to others? Cooperative with the coaches? (Note: informal evaluation for
returning cheerleaders will be a combination score of tryouts week and 2014-2015 season)
During Tryout clinics and Mock tryouts you will learn/demonstrate:
· Group Gameday Cheer with signs
· Individual Cheer
· Jumps (toe touch, double toe touch, hurdler and pike)

Final evaluation (85%): you will perform the group gameday cheer (20%), individual cheer (20%),
jumps (15%) and tumbling (standing-10%, running-20%).
