JEFFERSON GIRLS’ BASKETBALL TRYOUT INFORMATION AND CRITERIA 2014-2015 SEASON Tryout Information Required Paperwork. Please see the Tryout Checklist for more details on the requirements. Players must have all forms complete and turned in prior to the first day of tryouts in order to be eligible to try out. Tryout Schedule. VHSL Rules require that all student-athletes have at least three full days to try out for the program. Those days will be Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday, November 10-11-12. ** All times and locations are subject to change depending on volleyball postseason play ** Monday, 11/10: JV/Freshman Tryouts: Varsity Tryouts: 4:00-5:45pm in Gym II 6:00-8:00pm in Gym I Tuesday, 11/11: JV/Freshman Tryouts: Varsity Tryouts: 4:00-6:00pm in Gym II 6:00-8:00pm in Gym I Wednesday, 11/12: JV/Freshman Tryouts: Varsity Tryouts: 4:00-6:00pm in Gym I 5:45-7:30pm in Gym II Players will not receive an additional day of tryouts unless they were participating in an active fall sport during the regular tryout period. Players should attend all tryout days. There may be additional days of tryouts beyond the first cuts on Wednesday. Final rosters will be selected at the latest by Saturday, November 15. Each team will have approximately twelve players, but never more than fifteen. Tryouts, like practices, are closed and only players and coaches may attend. What Tryout Should I Attend? All returning Varsity and JV players should attend Varsity tryouts Any new Juniors and Seniors should attend Varsity tryouts All returning Freshman team players should attend JV/F tryouts Any new Freshmen and Sophomores should attend JV/F tryouts Freshmen and Sophomores may be invited to Varsity tryouts after Monday, 11/10 JEFFERSON GIRLS’ BASKETBALL TRYOUT INFORMATION AND CRITERIA 2014-2015 SEASON Tryout Evaluation Criteria Players at all three levels will be evaluated in three primary areas: basketball skills, physical skills, and intangibles. Players should consider all areas equally important in their overall evaluation. The Basketball Skills area of evaluation includes, but is not limited to, the following sub-areas: - Shooting - Cutting, Pivoting, Footwork - Passing/Catching - On Ball Defense - Ballhandling - Off Ball Defense - Rebounding - Decision-making/Understanding of the Game - Potential to Develop (short-term and long-term) The Physical Skills area of evaluation includes, but is not limited to, the following sub-areas: - Conditioning - Leaping Ability - Strength - Body Control/Balance - Speed - Hand-Eye Coordination - Quickness The Intangibles area of evaluation includes, but is not limited to, the following sub-areas: - Leadership - Coachability - Teamwork - Responsibility - Effort - Confidence - Communication - Love of the Game/Enthusiasm - Attitude - Toughness (physical and mental) The Head Coach of each team will have the final say over which players are selected for each team. Input from assistants and other coaches in the program will aid the Head Coach’s decision-making process.
