Part A: Anatomy and Physiology in the Media- 25 points
1. Anatomy & Physiology in the News:
Find an article in a newspaper or magazine (in print or online) that discusses
Human Anatomy and/or Physiology. You may not use an article that was used in
class. Read the article and TYPE a two paragraph summary of the article. Turn
in the article with your summary.
Your summary should include the following: (10 points)
 Paragraph 1: Detailed summary of article content.
 Paragraph 2: Answer the following questions:
 Why did you choose this article?
 What areas of Human Anatomy and Physiology are discussed
in this article?
 Why is the subject of the article important?
 What are two things you learned from reading this article?
2. Anatomy & Physiology on TV:
Watch an approved TV show that deals with Human Anatomy & Physiology (one
that was not viewed in class). TYPE a two paragraph summary of the show.
Approved shows: Discovery Channel Human Body Series, Dr. G Medical
Examiner, ER, House, CSI, Grey’s Anatomy…see me with other options.
Your summary should include the following: (15 points)
 Paragraph 1: Answer the following questions:
 What is the name of this show?
 Why did you choose to watch and summarize this particular
episode? Have you seen other episodes of this show?
 What happened in this episode related to Human Anatomy and
Physiology? (include a brief summary of this episode)
 Paragraph 2: Answer the following questions:
 Describe at least two characters from this show that have
careers dealing with the fields of Human Anatomy or
Physiology.

What are two things you learned about Human Anatomy or
Physiology from watching this TV show?
Part D: Technology’s Role in Anatomy and Physiology – 75 pts
May work in a group of 3 or 4.
Select a topic from the list provided, or get your own topic approved.
Research the development and uses of technology related to your topic. Present
your findings to the class using a “science fair” type display and oral presentation
set up in the classroom.
Requirements:
a. Develop and construct a time line showing dates, discoveries, costs,
advances, failures, etc. (10 pts).
b. Explain how this technology is supposed to be used to help patients (5 pts).
c. Research and report on at least two patients who have benefitted from the
technological advances you have selected ( or…the pros) (10 pts).
d. Research and report on at least two patients who have suffered because of
problems with or limits to the technology you have selected (the cons) (10 pts).
e. Research and report on projected advancements and future uses for
technology in the field you have selected (5 pts).
f. Construct and describe a model showing at least one form or use of the
technology related to your topic (10 pts).
g. Give a well organized, cohesive, thorough, and school-appropriate
presentation that demonstrates teamwork, effort and creativity. The presentation
should be 3-6 minutes in length. All research must be printed out, highlighted to
show specific information used in presentation, and turned in. (15 pts)
h. Audience feedback (10 pts) – Mr. Green will assess this in class.

-Artificial Muscles-Brain implants-Hearing Aides and Cochlear Implants
-Vision correction-Artificial Hearts-Pacemaker implants –Angioplasty
-Coronary bypass-Chemotherapy and Radiation therapy-Nanotechnology
-Fertility treatments-Nuclear medicine-Endoscopy-Arthroscopic procedures
-Medication for a specific disease or condition-Surgery-Assessment devices
