Saturday 6th June 2010 Mimesis Mimesis was formed in 2007 specifically for the charity event "Vox and Vintage" hosted by Alexander Productions. Mimesis was then officially set up as a cover band, arranging all music in house and adapting a vast range of styles for their unique string setup. In December 2007, Mimesis won the Narrabeen Sands Hotel "Buskers by the Beach" Annual Competition, taking home both the title and $1500 prize money! Mimesis is primarily based on the North Shore and Northern Beaches. OLE! Marina conducts Flamenco Dance Classes in Sydney, Avalon, Manly, Chatswood, Narrabeen, Queenscliff, and soon Gosford NSW. Urban Gypsies Urban Gypsies are a fiery instrumental guitar band. They play original Jazz Latin and Contemporary music with an edge. Mixed with world music influences, Jazz, funk, and flamenco, their music represents an exciting new direction in Latin fusion. Urban Gypsies have also released 3 original albums to date; Gypsy Fever (2000), Sauvage (2003) and the newly released Beautiful Catastrophe (2008) The band headlined at exclusive Sydney venues, The Vanguard in May 2009 and the Basement 2009 to launch their new CD Beautiful Catastrophe. The 5 members of The Usual Suspects all found their common ground and friendship as graduates of SCA (School of Creative Arts). Philharmonix From French gypsy swing to tangos and Polkas, accordionist philharmonix is returning to Manly Food and Wine with an exciting new line up Amit Laud Cooking Demonstration Amit has joined Boilerhouse Harbourside Restaurant from Wharekauhau Country Estate. Amit came through the culinary ranks at Al Mahara at Burj Al Arab. (San Pellegrino ‐ Top 50 Restaurants in the World, No. 1 Hotel in the Wold & Best Hotel – Leisure Condé Nast Traveller 1999). Amit was also recently featured on Mercurio’s Menu and his food is influenced by Modern Australian with French and Asian influences. Gail Page Band Gail simply has one of the biggest voices in the business. Her earth shattering vocals and bubbly personality draws immediate attention when performing live and leaves the audience with the feeling they have witnessed something exceptional and special. Gail sees her music as a “sacred” place, drawing inspiration from her Aboriginal/ Irish heritage, coupled with a lifetime of experience. Gail has performed as a headliner at venues and festivals throughout Australia. Her mix of Blues/ Soul & Funk brings a vibe and feel, which rejuvenates ones soul. Craig Calhoun and Brothers of Oz Craig Calhoun and the Brothers of Oz are legends in their home town of Sydney, renowned as a band whose energy and stage show trigger enormous reactions from their enthusiastic fans. BORN in Colorado USA, the son of a singer and an army officer, there's no doubting the musical talents inherent in the Calhoun family. Vicki Calhoun can be heard on Chilli Peppers & Fishbone CD's, Will Calhoun, the driving beat for Living Colour. Another Calhoun has called Australia home and this legend's known for his funky bass slap and monstrous groove. . John Mackie The New Orleans Rascals Born in Auckland, John played bass with various bands around New Zealand. Since moving to Sydney in 1981, he has worked with various jazz groups and participated in many events around Sydney, including the Esso Jazz Festival with Merv Atcheson and Don Burrows. John has worked with the Tom Baker Swing Street Orchestra, Brad Child's Big Band, Ian Date, Ian Cooper, Delilah, Bobby Gebert, Trudy Aspeling and Marty Mooney. The Shallows The Shallows are a 3 piece guitar based instrumental band featuring two guitars and drums. The Shallows set list generally pays homage to the laid back surf guitar sound of the 50’s and 60’s as well as selected vocal covers. Sunday 7th June 2010 Zoe Elliot Zoe Elliot is a young singer songwriter appearing regularly at venues in Sydney. Her fresh, charismatic and emotional performances have already built her a loyal following. She accompanies herself with acoustic guitar and her music ranges from fun and rhythmic to soulful, jazzy, reflective, and even quirky. Her voice has a unique, melting tone which has been known to quieten the local pub. However, there is plenty of voice for her bigger bluesy songs. She has the ability to get the crowd clapping and singing along, yet is also able to captivate them with heart reaching story telling. Uncle Jed Its members have been writing songs together for the last six years. Starting out as a long distance project, brothers Danny Stitt and Shannon Stitt would write from their home in Coffs Harbour, and cousin Laura Stitt would write from her home in Sydney. The resulting CDs were swapped by post to complete their first creations. Soon, after a few family bashes where the three would meet and collaborate, the two boys decided to make the move to Sydney to further their musical careers. After completing their first tour "The Funk Stops Here" travelling the North Coast, Uncle Jed are looking to spread their wings and share their sound with as many people as possible. While at present, enjoying playing in their home town Sydney, Uncle Jed has aspirations to travel far and wide to experience the appreciation of international crowds. Van Sereno and Byron Mark Together Van Sereno and Byron Mark are an exciting stage show that is energetic and demands attention from all ages and walks of life. Their energy is infectious, a tight show of musical professionalism that has lead them to well deserved residencies at Paddy Maguires at Haymarket, Star City Casino and Clovelly Hotel, and even out of town shows in Kiama, Newcastle and Mt Kosciusko. Watch and observe the passion in the rhythm and the melody, a return to the urban roots, that is “Van and Byron”. They will have you stomping for more! Girl Most Likely Girl most Likely are a Sydney based indie pop/rock outfit with bittersweet lyrics that catch a wry observation of life. Their songs have been used on TV promos for The L Word, All Saints and Home and Away. They frequently tour the east coast from Brisbane to Melbourne, playing at the likes of the Espy and The Brunswick Music Festival. In Sydney they play regularly – from The Basement to The Sando. They're a hugely entertaining and energetic live act. Hot on the heels of their critically acclaimed debut EP, they’ve just finished recording their first album, due for release mid 2010. Hassan M’Souli – Out of Africa Cooking Demonstration Chef: Hassan M'Souli is the Executive Chef and owner of Out of Africa restaurant on Sydney, Australia's northern beaches. He has owned and operated three restaurants specialising in Moroccan cuisine. He has appeared on numerous television shows and had many articles written about his influence on the Australian food scene. Hassan will be conducting a demonstration on his special Harissa, traditional Bisarra dip, Eggplant Stack and a will be conducting a talk on tasty Tajines. Birdie King Bridie King is one of Australia's top Blues and Boogie pianists. Get on board roots music express as Bridie, on piano, organ and piano accordion, takes you on a wild musical journey from Kansas City down through Memphis, Mississippi and all the way to New Orleans. The ride takes in all musical whistle stops - boogie woogie, blues, soul and zydeco. Domestics Formed in late 2006, The Domestics have been creating funk/rock originals since. The Domestics have recently come out of hiding in January of this year and have since played gigs and residences at many of Sydney's premier venues, including The Annandale Hotel, The Hopetoun Hotel, Oxford Art Factory, The Lansdowne Hotel and the Gaelic Club. Soul Predators The Soul Predators are a refreshing addition to Sydney's music scene.
