Students are more productive when moving to a 45 minute lesson after a one year period.
(In-Home pricing includes wear and tear on vehicle, gas, and mostly, time. Pricing is w/in 10 miles one way.
Please add $1.00 for each additional mile, each way, from my studio).

BI-Weekly Lessons- (-15%) for 2nd weekly lesson
Registration fee $25 - Includes all photocopies, invoices for the year. (Pro-rated Sept 1st)
Late fee $25 - Payments received after the 7th of each billing month will be charged.
Full tuition is due each month, even if all classes are not taken (________initial). You are
renting space in my schedule and like any rent; it is due whether you are there or not. You
may choose to go on vacation and not pay; however you risk losing your rented space.
Holiday weeks are Thanksgiving and Christmas only. I will try and work with your personal
vacation times as best I can. The more notice the better.
BI-MONTHLY STUDENTS AND ALTERNATE DAY STUDENTS: I am happy to
accommodate your lives by offering a minimum of 2 lessons per month or alternate “day’
lessons i.e. (Mon one week and Wed the next). In these instances, an additional $5/month
administrative fee will apply for the extra scheduling involved.
TEMPORARY STUDENTS (WHEN I SUBSTITUTE TEACH): Payment at the agreed rate
with your teacher will be made in the amount of $____/____minute lessons and paid one
week in advance. Travel fees of $____ will apply to each in home lesson.
CANCELLATION POLICY: I must enforce a 24 hour cancellation policy for BOTH of us by
phone or text only. If you cancel LESS than 24 hours prior to a lesson, that lesson will be paid
for. I will do the same in return for you. Should I cancel less than 24 hours in advance, then
I owe you a lesson. Should you cancel with MORE than 24 hours notice, I will most likely be
able to teach a make-up lesson within 30 days.
TARDINESS I allow up to 5 minutes for tardiness. After that, the amount of time you are
late will be deducted from your lesson. (For example: a 60 minute lesson that is scheduled to
begin at 4:00: If you show up at 4:15, you will have a 50 minute lesson).
PRACTICE It is very important that you practice every day. Beginning students 15-30
minutes per day; Intermediate students 45-60 minutes, and Advanced students 1-3 hours.
PURCHASING MATERIALS: I will always recommend music books and materials for you on
your invoices and with notice. I will select and purchase that music but will expect you to
reimburse me regular retail prices upon receipt of those materials.

MATERIALS For home practice; stand, metronome, tuner, pencil, computer and recording
device. For lessons; notebook, assignment books and instrument. All students can expect to
work on school music, a method book, solo book and duet book. Advanced students may
have multiple solos and etudes added to their curriculum. Please have all materials organized
and ready when the lesson begins.
MAKE-UP LESSONS: Make–up lessons are forfeited 30 days after the missed, regularly
scheduled lesson. (I.e. a Jan 15th missed lesson can be made-up until Feb 15th. After Feb
15th, the lesson will be paid for whether taken or not). Typically I add time to subsequent
lessons and nothing is lost. Maximum # of make-ups within 30 days is 2.
INSTRUMENTS Your flute should be in good working order. I recommend it be serviced
once a year. You are responsible for maintaining your instrument. Please secure a loaner
while your instrument is being repaired. Please consult me if you are thinking about
purchasing or upgrading your current instrument. Recommended repair specialists are: Jay

a “keyboard” must consider renting or purchasing a digital or acoustic piano after 6 months.

COMPETITION & OTHER FEES Students who participate in other events such as
Certificate of Merit, Solo & Ensemble Festivals, Student Recitals, Master Classes, etc. should
expect to pay additional costs for application process, accompaniment, administration fees,
MTAC branch fees, misc. study materials, food costs for receptions etc. Recital fees are
usually $25 with piano. Food costs are usually $15. I am certified to teach Certificate of Merit
to flutists at all 10 levels. I can prepare pianists for beginning CM levels, but am not yet
certified.
RECITALS occur throughout the year and are scheduled upon student demand. The fees are
usually $30 per student and $5 for each audience member. Both Lesson and recital fees for
that month must be paid in full in order for the student to perform.
PIANO ACCOMPANIMENT Students should expect to pay $60/hr for an accompanist. This
includes two, 1 hour rehearsals and one performance. Recommended pianist for
intermediate: Miho Gary miho.gary @yahoo.com. Advanced: Dr. Diane Snodgrass
snodbroad@cox.net. I can accompany beginning students.
GROUP/ENSEMBLE PARTICIPATION I highly recommend that students participate in a
school music program or extracurricular organization. Playing with others in an ensemble
setting will greatly improve your playing and reading skills.
CONCERTS It is also very important that you attend local professional concerts and recitals.
San Diego Symphony; San Diego Youth Symphony; San Diego Flute Quartet, San Diego
Coastal Flutes, etc. I will help make you aware of upcoming events. Please keep me abreast
of any concerts that you are in so I can make an effort to attend.
PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES Students produce superior results and are more
willing to practice when parents are involved. Feel free to sit in on any lesson at any time.
Parents should contact me with questions or disciplinary concerns they may have. Students
are highly encouraged to contact me between lessons if they don’t understand their lesson
plans. There are no additional fees for any of the above, in fact I encourage it!!
REFERRALS If you refer a new student to me I will give you a free 30 minute lesson after
that referral has paid for 4 lessons. You may also donate your lesson money for a tax
deduction to the “Hayutin Music Studio/Scholarship Fund”. I will match contributions via free
lessons as well.
