We will celebrate reading and announce our total minutes at Parents and Pastries on March 2. Homework- Students must read for 30 minutes each day and record the minutes they have read in their planners. Each student must write the spelling words three times, use each word in a sentence, and put the words in alphabetical order. Please complete the attached math worksheet. Homework is due Friday morning. Spelling Words- funnier, carries, emptier, sorriest, worried, families, easily, merrier, lazier, cries, marries, cozily, and dizziest Language Arts- This week we are reading The Blind Hunter, set in Africa. IT is about Chirobo, a blind man, who lives in a small village. Chirobo is kind and wise. He asks to go hunt with Muteye, a man who has come to the village. At first the hunter says no, but then agrees when Chirobo says he can see in other ways. We would like to know how Chriobo can do this. As we read, the author will give us hints that we can use to draw conclusion about Chirobo and about Muteye. We will focus on drawing conclusions, word families such as wisdom and wise and plural nouns. Vocabulary- cautiously, faint, crisscrossed, jealousy, disguised, wisdom, and fade Science- Students will continue to keep a weather log. They will review the water cycle and weather and take an assessment on their understanding. Mathematics- Students will write fractions as an equivalent fraction to simplest form and use equivalent fractions to represent a pair of fractions as fractions with a common denominator. Students will create basic graphs using Google Sheets and recreate table with exact measurements. Valentine’s Day Class Party- Thank you to the parents that helped with our party last week. The children had a wonderful time! Keyboarding Practice- Students in 4th grade should be able to type 20-30 words correct per minute by the end of the year. We will begin our keyboarding practice at school, but parents will need to help with this at home. As part of your child’s homework, he/she will need to practice keyboarding twice a week for 20 minutes each session. Please read and help your child with proper finger placement. (It is a lot like piano lessons, your child will need you there to help and guide him/her until they become proficient and stop trying to use the “hunt and peck” method.) Thanks for your help.
