Explain why in the United States there is a separation of power between branches of government and levels of government. The student will understand the 3 branches of government (Legislative, Executive, Judicial) as well as their purpose through an acting activity. Stage 2 Assessment Evidence Assessment Instrument (Ex. Test, Poster, Presentation, Picture, etc.) Evaluation (Grading) Instrument (Ex. Point System, Rubric, Checklist, etc.) Verbal Quiz Checklist – Student will be asked questions and if they answers them correctly they will receive a check for that question. Total of 4 questions. Stage 3 Learning Plans Materials Flip Chart presentation, 3 branches of government labels, check list, constitution for activity (made by me relating to school), paper for the students to write their bills. Sequence of Teacher Actions I will begin by telling the class that we will be learning about the 3 branches of government. I will then ask the class if they already have any knowledge about the 3 branches of government. I will then show a video about the 3 branches of government. After the video I will go though the flip chart (about the 3 branches of government) with the class teaching them about the 3 branches of government. After we have completed the flip chart, I will ask each student to write a bill that they think should become a law about school after I have collected their bills I will divide the class into 3 groups. One group will the Legislative branch, the other will be the executive branch and the last group will be the judicial group. The class will act out the roles of each branch. The classes’ bills will start in the Legislative branch and will circulate through the room until it arrives to the executive branch and is decided on there. While the class participates in this activity, I will asses each student using my checklist on the 4 important questions to asses their knowledge on . *Attention-Getter/Motivator *Tie to Previous Learning *Significant Actions to Introduce and Guide Lesson this lesson. I will then wrap up the lesson. After this, the class will write their own bills relating to school. The will then disperse into their 3 groups and act out the role of each branch of government. Each student will participate in the verbal quiz with me while participating in the activity. The class will then prepare for the wrap up.
