McGraw-Hill Course Objectives: Describe the structures and functions associated with the Autonomic Nervous System, Endocrine, Cardiovascular, Lymphatic, Respiratory, Digestive, Urinary, and Reproductive Systems. Describe the relationship and interactions between these body systems. Know the processes associated with metabolism. Describe Water Balance within the body. List the major electrolytes and imbalances associated with them. Describe what an Acid and Base are and how Buffer Systems play a role in our body. Name several diseases and disorders of the organ systems discussed and explain what causes them. Explain how diseases and disorders of the body are detected and treated. Understand how homeostasis plays an important role in health and disease. Course Standards/Attendance Policy: Students are expected to be present and on time for all classes and labs. Active participation is expected from all students. Quizzes are given during the first 15 minutes of class time, and cannot be made up if absent or late. Labs cannot be made up. No Extra credit will be given. Students must notify the instructor within 24 hours of missing a test, and make arrangements to make up the test within 1 week. Failure to comply will result in a grade of zero for that test. All cell phones must be OFF and put away before class begins. Students can drop or miss one quiz score only. Quizzes cannot be made up! No extra credit given. NO Exceptions! Biol 131L: Grading policy: Lab grade will constitute 25% of the BIOL 131 grade and will be determined as follows: Lab Reports: Lab practicals: ave. %=25% final lab grade ave. % grade of each of 2 practicals= 75% total lab grade Students not in compliance with lab safety directives will not be permitted to remain in lab NO EXCEPTIONS! College Required Information Withdrawals: All withdrawals must be initiated by the student.The college has set APR 5th,2013 as the last date to receive a “W” grade. Students wishing to withdraw must obtain my signature on the college Drop/Add form and officially withdraw through admissions. Students who are still officially enrolled after this date will receive the grade based on your final average.
