DEPARTMENT Architectural Drafting Cabinet Making II Mechanical/CAD Drafting II Cabinet Making I Mechanical/CAD Drafting I Intro. to Technology Production Blueprint Reading Introduction to Drafting INTRODUCTION TO TECHNOLOGY - Is a one-semester course, offered first semester. As this is the first course in a series of technology classes, it is necessary the first emphasis will be placed on safety. Therefore, safety instruction will be given and time will be spent practicing safe procedures for using traditional shop equipment. Safety tests will be given over several machines. Students will then make a small project using these tools and machines. Grades 9 &10 MUST be taken prior to Intro. to Drafting and/or Blueprint Reading. PRODUCTION BLUEPRINT READING- This is a one semester course that provides students with the knowledge and ability to interpret the lines, symbols, and conventions of blueprints from a variety of industrial applications. This is the starting course for the Drafting Pathway Grades 9 and 10 INTRODUCTION TO DRAFTING: This is an introductory course designed to expose students to both architectural and mechanical (technical) drafting skills. This is the starting course for the Cabinetmaking Pathway. CABINET MAKING I - This year-long class is designed to provide the student an opportunity to develop skills and acquire more knowledge in woodworking. The first phase of the class is spent researching fundamentals such as: suitable product design, interpreting a drawing, reviewing measurement practices, designing their first project, calculating the cost of the project and reviewing safety procedures. This project is then completed in the shop lab. The next phase includes demonstrations of common woodworking processes, followed by performance testing over these procedures. Prereq-Intro. to Tech/Intro. to Drafting Grades 10-12 24 CABINET MAKING II - This course follows cabinetmaking I in which students continue to learn new woodworking skills by working on individual projects. Students will study more advanced methods of production and finishing techniques. Prereq.- Cabinetmaking I Grades 11-12. MECHANICAL / CAD DRAFTING I This is the first full course in a series of drafting classes. As such, it is essential for emphasis to be placed on learning basic correct procedures, technique. Much time will also be spent learning to draw with a CAD system. Prereq.-Intro to Tech/Production Blueprint Reading Grades 10-12 MECHANICAL / CAD DRAFTING II -The student will receive instruction is such areas as geometrics, sections, auxiliaries, screw thread representation and the working drawing. Instruction is also given on computer aided drafting, with emphasis on recent AutoCAD releases. Prereq.- Mech. Drafting I Grades 11-12 ARCHITECTURAL DRAFTING- The student will receive instruction in how to draw architectural plans for garages, single family homes, 1.5 story homes and two story homes. DEPARTMENT ICC Welding I and II Agribusiness Agricultural Mechanics II Animal Science Agricultural Mechanics I Horticulture Agriscience AGRISCIENCE -A basic introduction to agriculture and the FFA. This class will include classroom work, lab activities, and occasional field trips. Areas of study will be FFA, basic public speaking, parliamentary procedure, supervised agricultural experience (SAE), record keeping, leadership, animals in our society, basic plant science, basic welding, and general agricultural issues. This class is a prerequisite for all other classes in the agriculture education department. Grades 9-12 HORTICULTURE – Prerequisite: Agriscience. This class will use classroom instruction, lab activities, and occasional field trips. The fields of study will be plant taxonomy, plant structures, plant growth process, soils, soil fertility, plant genetics, plant propagation, weed/disease/pest control, greenhouse practices, nursery and landscape industry, floriculture industry, and vegetable gardening. Grades 10-12. Offered every other year. (2013-2014) ANIMAL SCIENCE -Prerequisite: Agriscience. The class will include classroom instruction, lab activities, and occasional field trips. The fields of study will be anatomy and physiology, animal health, nutrition, genetics, livestock marketing, reproduction, animal products, and fish and wildlife. Grades 10-12. Offered every other year. (2014-2015) AGRIBUSINESS –Prerequisite: Agriscience and Horticulture or Animal Science. This class will use classroom instruction, lab activities, and occasional field trips. This class is a study of financial applications in the field of agriculture. The fields of study will be employment information, interviewing and job applications, 26 financial skills, balance sheets, borrowing and investing, and economic systems, SAE, and leadership. Grades 11 & 12. AGRICULTURAL MECHANICS I - Prerequisite: Agriscience. This class will use classroom and laboratory instruction. The fields of study will include careers, safety, arc welding, mig welding, brazing, oxy-acetylene cutting, plasma torch cutting, and project construction. The required welding skill for this class will be done in the flat plane. Grades 10-12 AGRICULTURAL MECHANICS II – Prerequisite: Agriscience and Agricultural Mechanics I. This class will include classroom and laboratory instruction. The fields of study will include safety, arc welding, mig welding, brazing, oxy-acetylene welding, plasma torch cutting, project construction, and electricity. The required welding skills for this class will be done in the flat, horizontal, and vertical planes. Grades 11 & 12 WELDING I and II – Prerequisite: Agriscience, Agricultural Mechanics I, and Agricultural Mechanics II. This class will include classroom and laboratory instruction. The fields of study will include safety, arc welding, mig welding, tig welding, aluminum spool gun welding, brazing, oxy-acetylene welding, plasma torch cutting, and project construction. The required welding skills for this class will be done in the flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead planes. It includes a sequence of units on: Personal Improvement, Career Development, Family and Peer Relationships, Child care and development, Money Management, Foods and Nutrition, Clothing and Textiles, Housing and Leadership through Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America. CAREER & LIFE PLANNING: This semester course is an exciting flexible course for students in grades 912 designed to meet the needs, interests and abilities of each class designed for students who have had little or no other Family and Consumer Sciences course work. Basic living skills emphasize personal management, decision-making and consumerism. Students will apply the FCCLA planning process through the study of human needs, values, goals, and standards as they relate to adult responsibilities. Skills that meet these needs will be developed for areas of practical independent living and necessities of life such as: shelter, nutrition and wellness, financial and career planning, career portfolio, vacation planning, consumerism, and life planning simulation. * # LEADERSHIP: Grades 9-12 This semester course is designed to develop the leader in you!! Everyone can be a leader, not just officers. This course is for those individuals that want to make a positive difference in 28 their own life and the lives around them at home, at school and in the community. Communication, Problem Solving and Group Projects and Presentations are just a few topics that will be covered. Field Trips and Guest Speakers will be integrated into the curriculum. Recommended for anyone seeking a leadership position in any organization. Unlock the Leader in YOU!! #HOUSING DECISIONS: is a semester course for students in grades 10-12 designed to prepare students to choose, pay for and maintain housing and home furnishings. Topics include housing and furniture styles, financial and legal responsibilities of home ownership and selection and arrangement of furnishings. Various media will be used including guest speakers, field trips and actual hands on experience. Miniature scale models of floor plans and sample boards of furnishings for an entire house are to be included. * #CLOTHING DESIGN: This semester course is designed for the students in grades 10-12 who care about their appearance. Short units in clothing care, fashion design, and wardrobe planning will help student become better clothing consumers. Students will also have the opportunity to create at least one garment. Field trips, guest speakers, and actual hands on experience along with FCCLA will be integrated into the instruction. (Prerequisite-Intro. to Human Services) HUMAN GROWTH & DEVELOPMENT (PARENTING): (36 week course) is a year long course for students in grades 10-12 designed to include a study of facts, ideas and problems relevant for parents: financial realities of childbearing, family planning, prenatal care, discipline, and responsibilities of parents. Students will study and observe the physical, emotional, intellectual and social development of children. Activities will involve evaluating children’s toys, television, and clothing along with learning how to read to children, so they will want to read later in life. Guest speakers, field trips to day care centers and actual experience working with children along with FCCLA will be integrated into the class instruction. FAMILY STUDIES (formerly known as Balancing Work and Family): is a semester course for students in grades 10-12 designed to prepare students for future experiences with the emphasis on family—preparation for and adjustments to marriage while balancing family and financial responsibilities. Instruction and activities will focus on preparing the individual to establish and maintain a satisfying home and family life and to balance these skills with the world of work. Topics include: marriage and career preparation, parenthood, family budgeting, and housing decisions. Guest speakers, field trips, role-playing and class discussions along with FCCLA are integrated into the class instruction. CONSUMER RESOURCE MANAGEMENT: is required for students in grade 12 designed to help students become aware of the information available to help make wise consumer decisions. Students will study units in: check writing and keeping a checking account, credit, insurance (home, health, and automobile), preparing tax forms, saving and investing. FCCLA is integrated into the curriculum. NUTRITION AND WELLNESS: is a 1st semester course for students in grades 10-12 designed to help students evaluate and develop a wellness plan to fit their individual needs. This course will aid students in the decisions they make regarding eating habits, personal habits and fitness. A must for athletes!! FCCLA is integrated into the curriculum. Culinary Basics follows Nutrition & Wellness. CULINARY BASICS (formerly Meal Management): Culinary Basics is designed to help students in grades 10-12 to prepare nutritious meals for the fast paced families of today. Short units include: food pyramid cooking, table-setting, supermarket shopping and healthy eating out along with creative cooking techniques for dessert preparation. FCCLA will be integrated into the instruction. (Prerequisite: Nutrition and Wellness) CAREER AND COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS: is the Application level course for the learner to apply technical skills in a professional learning experience, unpaid or paid, outside or within the school environment. Grades 11-12 29 Included will be continued development and finalization of the student’s portfolio.
