☻ Read the introductory material on Bruce Dawe and the poems in your booklet
☻ Choose your favourite 3 poems
☻ For each of these 3 poems do the following in your booklet (ie write
around/under the poem that is printed there) : What is the main idea you get
from the poem? (what is it saying to you), What poetic techniques are used to get
across those ideas? How does using these techniques affect the readers reaction to
the ideas presented? Have a look at the example I have done for you (it is the
email attachment with the weekly work). You will see my notes around the top
then a paragraph about the poem below. Use this as a model.
☻ You will each have to lead discussion on at least one of your chosen poems during
our VC so make sure you know them well. I will open our examination of Dawe’s
poetry by looking at “Turn Again Home”
☻ Prepare a 500 word mini essay response to the following question. This is the first
step in being able to write about a selection of Dawe’s poetry which you will need
to do in your final exam. You must email it to me by Friday, 1st June.
☻ QUESTION:
Choose one of Dawe’s poems. Explain the way Dawe made you feel about an idea
you found in it and the way he used language to position you to feel this way.
You must explain the idea clearly, use quotations, explain the effect of using
specific poetic techniques and use correct essay structure
(introduction/body/conclusion).
Extension
To hand in Mini essay: Friday, 1st June
