Examines the major functions of human resource management
-- planning, staffing, compliance with laws regulating
employment relations, training and development,
compensation, employee relations, and union-management

technology firms and organizations experiencing or
contemplating technological change.

Course Objectives:



To introduce students to the major activities
involved in managing an organization’s human
resources ─ strategic planning, staffing, training
and development, employee and union relations,
compliance with laws governing employer-employee
relations, and compensation.
Primarily take the perspective of the general manager
rather than that of the human resource management
specialist. This means we will focus on strategic
considerations — how the management of an
organization’s human resources can help an
organization meet its organizational objectives and
competitive challenges — rather than such minutiae as
the techniques for job evaluation, performance
evaluation, or the design of different types of
benefit packages.
Consider the special challenges to effective human
resource management faced by high technology
organizations, organizations experiencing or
contemplating technological change, and organizations
employing knowledge workers, including workers in
high technology occupations.
