Welcome to all players, new and returning ones, families and supporters all. It is with an immense sense of pride and satisfaction that we start the season in a lot better state than we finished the last one. The initiatives we instituted to help our recruiting has borne fruit and we begin the season with 3 under 8 teams (and all full of enthusiasm and ability), an under 10, under 12, 2 under 14s and an under 16 side. We also have 6 mens teams to add experience and stability to the Club. I would like to welcome our new Coaches and Managers to the Club. Without your contribution, we would not be able to function. And as we are all volunteers, I know the degree of uncertainty that you would have experienced when you put pen to paper and agreed to take on the job. It may test you at times, but I know that you will thoroughly enjoy the experience. When you see the look of joy and excitement on the kids faces when they take a catch or wicket, or when they score their first runs, you wouldn't trade it for quids. I can only thank you for your efforts and what you will bring to the Club. It is great to see the nets and bowling machine are being used every day of the week. Friday afternoon is a cricket-fest, with all pitches and the nets pumping. The recent sausage sizzle on Friday was great and will become a regular feature during the season. So join us for a banger sanger and a drink, meet your team and families and others in the Club. We need to be sociable off the field to help make the Club a success on the field as well. Our Committee has done a great job once again, in the run-up to the season. There is a lot of work done by these guys that is not seen by the majority, but it by no means goes unnoticed. Thanks guys. A special mention to Dave Jordan who has no involvement with the Club as a parent or player, but has put in 'yoeman's service' as far as work he has done for our little 'Clubhouse' and lighting of the nets. Huge effort and huge thanks Dave. As far as our efforts in the first round have gone, it was a mixed bag with some good wins and a few losses. But as we are traditionally slow starters, there is no need for concern, I'm positive we can turn those losses around. Again, welcome and we look forward to another year of enjoyable and competitive cricket, and making new and renewing old friendships. Yours on sticky wicket.... Pipes. We will try and work this in with Cricket NSW. More details when they are to hand. SPONSORSHIP A general thank you to all our sponsors for 2011-12 season as without you we would not be able to meet our cost commitments. Our wholehearted thanks go out to them and may they support us for years to come. So get behind them for the good of our club. Many years ago sponsorship was unheard of at our club but gradually over the last few years we would never have met the rising costs of running the club without the involvement of sponsors. It is hard for a club such as ours with limited membership and playing numbers to offer our sponsors a great deal for their money. We only ask that you the parents and the heart of our club support our sponsors wherever possible. ST JOHN BOSCO CRICKET CLUB 2012-13 SEASON A club can’t run effectively without sponsorship and we are no different to any other club. The Sponsor’s dollars go to renewing the kits and equipment that is necessary to give your kids the best opportunity to play and train for cricket. So I offer our Sponsors a sincere thank you for your support and hope you continue with us next season. These Sponsors appear in our newsletter after each match, please support them as their dollars support your kids. Sponsors Carpet Court Engadine Heathcote Services Club A.&D.J. Building Services A & B Rowling Automotive Pty Ltd McDonalds (Engadine) LGB Fitness The Tool Store Smartworks Education Monarch Seafoods Veolia Environmental Services Pied Piper Labour Services I have attached a list of advantages we can now offer potential sponsors especially with our new website up and running MILO in2CRICKET We will again be organising the program for youngsters interested in a skills development program that runs as a separate program to the actual cricket competition. Whilst we have organised games for U8’s and U10’s, last year some of our players in these age groups also benefited greatly from the skills development that the program offers. We would also urge players from 6yrs up to register in our U8 competition as we put the younger members together and usually play against teams of similar age and ability. The MILO in2Cricket sessions will commence some time in October and usually runs until near Xmas. The cost of this has not been set by Cricket NSW yet but anticipated to be around $60. There will be special promotional packs and giveaways for the participants and regular skills development programs usually Friday afternoon but this is yet to be confirmed. Further information will be available the closer we get to the start of the program but you can register on the normal club registration day. More info can be obtained from the Cricket NSW website www.in2CRICKET.com.au or our Coordinator Mark Piper. CLUB COMMUNICATIONS The clubs website is www.boscocricket.org.au. Please make a special of note of this as it has changed since last year and you will need to change your browser search. We keep this site up to date with all club information, contacts and events that all members should be aware of. We welcome your comments and suggestions on what should be contained there and hope we can develop it further as time goes by. A full list of our sponsors can be seen there with relevant links to their websites where supplied and we encourage you to visit these sites. ST JOHN BOSCO CRICKET CLUB 2012-13 SEASON There is also the competition website which contains all the club registration details and will provide access to all club members to view results and competition tables and team statistics for both Juniors and Mens competitions. www.cricket-online.info. The coaches and managers and committee have special access to team details and statistics but the general public can access match results. This is used to send emails to families as well so it is important to supply your up to date email contact details. The Association’s web site is www.ssjca.com.au and provides information on rules, regulations and results. Club details will also be available, as well as full season details. I wholeheartedly recommend the use of this site as it provides everything you need to know about the season. It is essential that you make yourself aware (coaches and managers especially) of the rules of the game and the Administrative regulations. They are all downloadable from the website. The teams, draw and results for the Men’s competition are also located on this website. ST JOHN BOSCO CRICKET CLUB 2012-13 SEASON MATCH REPORTS – ROUND 1 8 BLUE – Round 1 DLS Seagulls 1: 9 for 132 (I.Abela 4-15, D.Osmand 2-36, M. Adam 1-27, M. Bruckard (1-27) beat St John Bosco Blue *: 9 for 54 (M.Adam 8, J. Smithson 6) The season has commenced with all the team giving their best with bat and ball. The Seagulls had a terrific start on Day 1, with one partnership collecting 46 runs after their 6 overs despite excellent, consistent bowling on the pitch from Jonah and Matthew A. A hat trick of run outs from Isaac's bowling brought the score down somewhat but the Seagulls still managed a mammoth net score of 86 runs. The boys and Caitlan fought gallantly in the field and were sharp in knocking the bails off several times. Zac, Matthew A, Dylan and Caitlan did wonderfully well to preserve their wicket, whilst Dylan and Matthew A. managed to top score in their batting partnership with 18 runs. 10D’s – Round 1 St John Bosco 10 for 138 (Luke M 18, Lachlan 11no, Hayden 10, Steve 7no, Talen 6, Matthew 5no, Harrison 5, Luke 2no, Joel 2no, Benjamin 1no, Xavier 1, Harry 0) beat Engadine3 15 for 64 (Lachlan 2/6, Benjamin 2/11, Talen 1/4, LukeMo 1/5, Steve 1/5, LukeMe 1/6, Xavier 1/10, Harry 0/4, Harrison 0/4, Joel 0/5, Matthew 0/7, Hayden 0/11) The Bosco 10D’s started the season with a solid win over a competitive Engadine team at Preston Park. Coach Mark was extremely pleased with the teamwork in the field and the limited number of sundries from some tight bowling. Aside from all enjoying a fun game in some great Spring weather, the statistics and highlights for the players included: Harry : opened batting, net score 9, showed promise with the ball (0/4 from 1) giving no runs off the bat, great fielding. Ben : opened batting, net score 15 not out, solid bowling with 2/11 from 3 overs (both bowled), great fielding. Harrison: great batting including running between wickets, net score 9; a terrific catch of a spinning ball off LukeMe’s bowling; economical bowling (0/4 from 2) and great keeping behind the stumps. Steve : excellent batting (net score of 17) without loss of wicket; sound bowling (1/5 from 3) (bowled) and a near caught&bowled, plus a run-out after fielding from his own bowling; also kept very well behind the stumps. Joel : away for week 1, batted well to not lose his wicket against some keen bowling, net score 4; good bowling (0/5) especially his first delivery and some great fielding to save many runs. ST JOHN BOSCO CRICKET CLUB 2012-13 SEASON Talen : good batting (net score 2) and bowling (1/4 from 2) including a terrific bowled (middle & off stumps); great wicket-keeping and sensational fielding resulting in two run-outs including one direct hit. Hayden : excellent batting (net score 16) and very fast, full-length bowling (0/11 from 3, unlucky not to get a few wickets); sharp fielding saving runs and effecting a run-out. Matthew : great batting without loss of wicket (net score 10), great bowling action (0/7 from 3), and a great effort in the field. Luke Mecham : excellent batting (top-scored with net score 33 including 18 off the bat) breaking in his new bat with some nice fours including one that was 3 feet short of a six; solid bowling (1/6 from 3) and good keeping behind the stumps. Luke Morris : good batting without loss of wicket (net score 9) including excellent running with his batting partner; economical bowling (1/5 from 3, wicket was bowled); an outstanding catch above his head (Grandma was very pleased!) and great wicket-keeping; Lachlan : excellent batting (net score of 16) without loss of wicket including 2 fours; best bowling figures of 2/6 from 3 (both bowled) and two good run-outs; kept well behind the stumps. Xavier: good defensive batting against some tight bowling (net score 9); some great bowling (1/10 from 3) including one bowled, and enthusiastic fielding throughout the match. Congratulations to Lachlan, who was named Bosco’s player of the match. Thanks to Engadine for their sportsmanship & competition. Thanks to Pat for scoring, Mark for coaching & umpiring, and for the support from family & friends. Matt (Manager) 12C – Round 1 St John Bosco 1* 94 (Jarrod 12, Thomas 11, Jack 11, Isaac 10no, Patrick 10) & 4/35 (Ryan 12) lost to Gymea Bay 2 9/169 (David 2/6, Patrick 1/11, Jake 1/13, Isaac 1/18, Taylor 1/21) Day 1 started with Captain Cook winning the toss and electing to bat. The boys started well with Ryan and newcomer Tom opening. Tom got a handy start in his first match and made double figures before falling to a great catch. There were a number making double figures including Jarrod, Tom, Jack, Patrick and Isaac who had not made double figures before. The team used all bowling options on day one with a great LBW wicket to another newcomer, Jake, on the last ball of the day. Keeper (day 1) - Dave Cook. Great job and moved well sideways stopping any chance of byes. Day 2 commenced with the opposition batting on a very fast outfield. The boys continued with a number of overs shared amongst them. Some good signs in the field with great catches by Dave and Tom. Also, a great stumpings by Patrick, Taylor and Tom. Good bowling by Dave Cook with two wickets in two balls to finish the Gymea innings. Ryan top scored our batting in the second inings with 12 runs. ST JOHN BOSCO CRICKET CLUB 2012-13 SEASON The boys had a good first game and at times looked very sharp in the field. A little more concentration while at the crease will see them score a few more runs. Keeper (day 2) - Elliot Waugh. Another good keeping performance once he found his rythym. 16B – Round 1 St John Bosco 1* 79 (Joe 20, Henry 17, Ryan 16) & 7/132 (Tyler 50, Joe 25, Benoit 12no, Michael 10) lost to DLS Seagulls 1 117 (Michael 3/17, Henry 1/6, Adam 1/9, Troy 1/12, Samuel 1/15, Eoghan 1/18) Welcome to coach Sean, and thanks for taking on the boys this year. The team got off to its usual slow start to the season, with the boys still with their minds on the soccer and footy fields. Our first innings with the bat was over pretty quickly, with only a few players making double figures. Into the field on day 1, the team recovered well, and worked hard both on the field and with the ball. Wickets were shared around the team with all players bowling well. Dismissing De La early on day 2, we had another chance to bat, and improved on our first innings, with congratulations to Tyler for the first half century of the season. Overall a slow start, but some good signs for the upcoming weeks. Thanks to Luke and Pete for scoring. McManager ST JOHN BOSCO CRICKET CLUB 2012-13 SEASON HONOUR BOARD – Round 1 BATTING Pos.
