TIME STANDARDS
In competitive swimming, swimmers achieve time standards sort of like grades in school. These standards are set for boys
and girls in each age group. In Prince William Swim League (PWSL) a swimmer achieves a “C” time (PWC) when they
swim a stroke legally. They move to PWB and PWA times as they improve. In our summer league these times do not
factor into meet competition, but show individual improvement. You will see the time standards designated on the Time
Improvement Report. You can also look at your swimmer’s times in the meet results and see where they place on the
charts below.

Entry Rules
1. Swimmers may be entered in up to 3 Individual Entries in their age group each meet.
2. Swimmers may be entered in up to 2 Relays each meet
3. Swimmers may "swim up" to fill a Relay in an older age group. To compete, a Relay must have at least 2 swimmers of the
appropriate age group. Swimmers cannot "swim up" more than 2 age groups
4. All individual entries must be submitted to the opposing team by 8:00 PM on THURSDAY NIGHT. After that time
swimmers can only be entered for "exhibition" and cannot score or receive league ribbons.
5. Swimmers must have participated in 2 meets to swim in Divisionals.

Age group placement is determined by the swimmers age at June 1st of each season.
Swimmers having birthdays after 6/1 do not "age up".
All events are gender specific except the 8 & under mixed medley relay.
Determining Swimmers Official Time
 Each swimmer's time is clocked by 3 different timers and recorded on a "deck card"
 Deck cards are brought by "runners" to the scoring area where the official time is determined by: selecting the middle time or
taking the average if only 2 times are appropriate.
 After all times for an event are determined another person then verifies that the official time is accurate.
 If an official has Disqualified the swimmer for a stroke infraction, the DQ slip is attached to the deck card and DQ is written
instead of an official time.
 The times for the event are then entered into the meet computer.
 It is then verified that the times have been accurately entered.
 Times for each event are then posted for swimmers, parents and coaches.
 Any disputes regarding times or disqualifications are taken to the referee.
