KENYA UNION OF SAVINGS AND CREDIT CO-OPERATIVES LTD EDUCATION AND TRAINING CALENDER – 2008 KUSCCO LTD For all your SACCO Training needs come to KUSCCO – The market leader in SACCO Training EDUCATION AND TRAINING DEPARTMENT Education and Training department exists to provide knowledge and skills to SACCO members, leaders and staff. The knowledge and skills are pertinent and tailored to enable the SACCO fraternity face the myriad challenges of today’s competitive and dynamic environment. The department also caters for training needs of clients outside the Co-operative Sector i.e. in the larger public and private sectors. PEARLS TRAINING AND IMPLEMENTATION One of the products on offer by the department is PEARLS Monitoring, a set of financial ratios used by world council of credit unions (WOCCU) since 1990 to scrutinize effectiveness of SACCOs as business entities and service providers. PEARLS is an acronym for PROTECTION, EFFECTIVE FINANCIAL STRUCTURE, ASSET QUALITY, RATE OF RETURN AND COST, LIQUIDITY, and SIGNS OF GROWTH. This is a system built on the foundation of the International Prudential Standards of excellence in Financial Management and Stability. It gives Management yardsticks in which to measure the effectiveness of their financial policies and whether or not they comply with the International Prudential Standards as represented by a set of 44 ratios. ADMINISTRATIVE DETAILS Our courses are divided into National, Regional, Staff, In-house and International study visits and tours. We also manage training activities at our five regional offices namely Nairobi, Western, Rift Valley, Coast and Mt. Kenya. While invitations to the regional seminars are confined to each region, any SACCO willing to attend a seminar outside their region is free to do so by contacting either the head office or the officer in charge of the particular region. Our In-house/tailor made course are arranged in collaboration with your SACCO, based on your training needs. It is very important that the SACCO confirms participation to any planned activity at least seven (7) days before the seminar commences by completing the booking form that usually accompany the announcement. Our hotel bookings are based on this confirmation. Participants are particularly discouraged from traveling to any venue before confirming with KUSCCO. This is because the dates and venues on this calendar are tentative and therefore bound to change. Charges for our activities are modest, only intended to achieve a break-even effect. All payments should be made in the name of ‘KUSCCO Education Services’ account. Participants are expected to arrive at training venue in the evening of the reporting date except where the training is a one day non residential training in which case participants report at 8.00 a.m. OTHER KUSCCO PRODUCTS/SERVICES CENTRAL FINANCE DEPARTMENT CFP Department exists to mobilize savings for lending to SACCOs. We stand ready with a variety of loans to meet your liquidity needs: Jungu Kuu Mavuno Loan Jua Kali Booster Express Loan Education Scheme Smart tech Loan Premium Support – – – - Normal Loan Farmers Loan - Jua Kali sector Emergency Loan School fees – IT Loan for risk management HOUSING FUND The objective of this KUSCCO facility is to provide shelter to the SACCO fraternity. The fund is intended to offer affordable loan amenities to SACCOs that wish to buy or construct own office premises, or their members who wish to construct or purchase houses. KUSASA - This is a front office facility that offers banking services to SACCOs. RISK MANAGEMENT DEPARTMENT - RMP Department provides protection for SACCO funds. If offers the benefit of protection against loan loses should the unfortunate circumstances of a member having to pass on arise. The risk cover extends to total and permanent disability, payment of savings balance and funeral expenses. Committee members. We also publish a quarterly magazine ‘THE SACCO STAR’, where pertinent issue appertaining to the SACCO management and governance are elaborated upon. ADVOCACY The Union has recently established an advocacy office for the purpose of promoting the aspirations of the movement.
