family.

Parish Nurse News -- Scientists know that there are many
healthy foods to choose from. Many of these foods supply the
nutrients you need to stay healthy and minimize the toll of aging.
You have heard that an apple a day keeps the doctor away.
Come to find out, apples are a good source of fiber. A medium
sized apple has only 80 calories. Red apples are among the fruits
highest in quercetin, which researchers are studying for possible
antioxidant benefits. But the antioxidants are concentrated in the
skin, so don't peel before eating, just be sure to wash it well!

Pastor’s Column
I
wish to thank you all for the honor you afforded me on the
occasion of PRIESTHOOD SUNDAY during last Saturday's
celebration of the Vigil Eucharist. While I thought a blessing
may be bestowed upon me, as a way of honoring all priests, I did
not expect the children's poster of "love notes" nor the flowers
and gift certificate for Colonie Center. If it has not been clear
over the last 17 years, please know that it remains a privilege for
me to serve as your priest here in the city of Rensselaer.
The next day at our 10 a.m. Eucharist, during our "Rite of
Remembrance" celebration we honored those who have died
since this time last year. It was a moving celebration with 161 in
attendance. In the vestibule of the main entrance to the church
we have erected a Memorial Wall for the month of November
honoring those who died this past year and who were
remembered on Sunday. May they rest in peace!
Please note, due to the mandated biennial convocation for all
active priests in the diocese, to be held in Saratoga November
9th -11th --and therefore a lack of priests to cover daily Masses -- the 12:10 p.m. Mass on Thursday, November 10th is canceled.
I am pleased to announce that Edee Silva who has been filling
in as our parish organist since the death of Sharon Stein has
accepted a permanent position as organist for our 10:00 a.m.
Sunday Eucharist and all related liturgical services here in the
parish. Robert Acosta, who substituted for Edee on the
weekends of September 24th and 25th (Padre Pio Sunday) and
October 1st and 2nd (pastor's birthday) has committed to playing
at the Saturday 4:00 p.m. I am delighted that through the
commitment of these two fine organists we are able to provide
quality music at all of our services here at SJESJ. Please join me
in welcoming them to our staff!
Lastly, I would like to bring your attention to a very
important item concerning the proposed closing of the
Rensselaer Senior Center located in the Mc Manus Center.
Please review the enclosed insert to learn about how you can
help ensure that our voice is heard in preserving this important
community resource. Thank you for your assistance.

canned meats, beans of all kinds (baked, pork & beans, kidney

Collection of food for CoNSERNS-U Thanksgiving
