Summary of Post
This post involves supporting the undergraduate admissions systems and the industrial liaison
activities in the Department of Computing. We have an annual intake of 145 undergraduate
students and competition for places on our degree programmes is strong. The post holder is
involved in every aspect of the admissions procedures, starting in November with UCAS
applications and interviews, open days and taster days throughout the year, confirmation of
places in the summer and, finally, welcoming new students to our Department at the start of
session. The Industrial Liaison Unit exists to promote strategic alliances with industry. The post
holder has administrative responsibility for the industrial liaison activities of the Department,
including the organisation of Industrial Placements for the Third Year MEng courses and coordination of the Corporate Partnership Programme and Industrial Liaison Board.
The post holder is a key member of the Undergraduate Admissions Team, ensuring a timely
and accurate service for UCAS applicants. They will provide an efficient high quality service
ensuring continuous improvement and that the administrative burden placed on tutors is
minimal.
Key Responsibilities
Undergraduate Admissions







Work closely with the Admissions Tutor and Undergraduate Admissions Team in order
to agree and implement an undergraduate admissions strategy and event programme
for each academic year.
Responsible for ensuring that the team processes all UCAS forms within defined
processes and deadlines.
Responsible for liaising with Registry on behalf of the Undergraduate Admissions Team
Responsible for presenting a positive image of the Department through a variety of
channels (including web pages, brochures and open days) to encourage the best
applicants to come to Imperial.
Responsible for ensuring that all correspondence relating to admissions (including offer
and rejection letters) are sent to applicants within the required timescales.
Member of the interview visit day team with specific responsibility for organising
interview timetables, ensuring that the necessary schedules are in place within tight
timescales.
Maintain various admissions databases and generate regular statistical reports
Industrial Liaison






Work closely with the Director of Industrial Liaison in order to agree and implement an
industrial liaison strategy and event programme tailored to the needs of both our
students and companies.
Support the Director of Industrial Liaison in discovering and fostering new links with
industry to encourage collaboration, funding and sponsorship.
Co-ordinate the administration of the Corporate Partnership Programme (CPP) including
administration of associated programmes such as the Applications of Computing in
Industry lecture series.
Maintain the industrial liaison web pages ensuring that information for students and
employers, including brochures, placement and internship opportunities, graduate
positions etc., are kept fully up to date.
Act as secretary to the Industrial Liaison Board, coordinating the annual Industrial
Liaison Board meeting and maintaining relevant web pages.
Act as point of contact for any companies looking to recruit graduates or summer
interns.
Industrial Placements







Responsible for the Industrial Placements of the Third Year MEng students, ensuring
that all necessary processes are adhered to.
Advise students on preparation of CVs.
Act as focal point between companies and students in organising placements (including
circulating company information, collecting CVs, organising interviews and open days).
Liaise with new companies to establish placements for students to undertake their
industrial experience.
Supporting company visits during the summer whilst students are on placements to
ensure that the arrangements are working and that the work that the student is doing is
relevant to their studies.
Responsible for the organisation of placement assessment including Industrial
Placement presentations
Organise marking of Placement Reports by tutors.
Maintain a web presence for Industrial Placements.
Careers




Support a careers advisory service for our students, providing specialist advice and
guidance on a range of relevant issues.
Liaise with the College Careers Advisory Service, member of the Careers Advisors
Forum, and participate in College careers events.
To be responsible for running Open Days and other related events for the Department,
including the annual Games and Media Event (GaME).
Maintain departmental careers web pages.
Management




To manage the Undergraduate Secretary in order to provide an accurate and timely
service.
Responsible for planning, overseeing and monitoring the relevant budgets associated
with Undergraduate Admissions and Industrial Liaison.
Planning of resources and ensuring that resources are utilised appropriately.
Analysis of data, presenting results and recommending actions as appropriate.

Education and Qualifications

Degree or equivalent, or high level of experience
