Students will further develop their skills in scientific inquiry, and will learn the relationships between science, technology, and their own lives. Students will conduct experiments and understand scientific theories related to: cells, chemistry related to life, genetics and human physiology. A variety of assessment tools will be used to meet the needs of all students in this course including; tests, peer and self assessment, laboratory investigations, projects, and portfolio work. Required Materials Behavioral Policies Pens (black, blue, red), pencils, eraser, calculator(TI-83 or better), pencil crayons, binder, lined paper, lab notebook Biology Grade Late Assignments 1. Respect each other, the teacher, and school property 2. Come to class on time and prepared to work. 3. Homework must be turned in at the beginning of the period, or it will be considered late. 4. If you are going to miss class for a legitimate reason (illness, MUN, school activity, etc.) please submit your assignments before you leave. Under almost all circumstances, students are required to make up missed tests and quizzes on the day they return. 5. It is the student’s responsibility to find out what they have missed if they are absent. Those absent from unit tests and/or exams without a legitimate reason (doctors note needed if ill), will receive a mark of ZERO 6. Ms. Pak is available after school for help by appointment. Course grade: UNIT TESTS 25 % Lab Reports & Projects 25 % Homework assignments & Quizzes 12.5 % Personal Engagement and Attitude 12.5 % (including: on-time assignments) Final exam will be worth 25% of your final grade in this course. Assignments that are late will receive 10% off per day. Weekends count as 20%. Assignments may not be submitted after the unit is finished, and late assignments will not be accepted once that assignment has been corrected and returned to students. Under these circumstances, the student will receive a ZERO on that assignment.
