Students have learned the simple past tense and the present perfect tense before. But they don’t know how to distinguish the present perfect tense and the simple past tense. This is a textbook for the Grade 8th students. In this class, we are going to focus on infinitives, which include its structure, function, and relevant exercises. At the end of the class, students will be able to: 1. know the definition of the present perfect tense and the simple past tense and distinguish them; 2.use the present perfect tense and the simple past tense proficiently after playing some games and doing some exercises.. 3.use the present perfect tense and the simple past tense actively in communication. 1.The definition of the present perfect tense and the simple past tense 2.The difference between the present perfect tense and the simple past tense in practical use Since students have known something about the present perfect tense and the simple past tense before, teacher will use the “inductive methods” to help them to summarize the structure of the present perfect tense and the simple past tense. In addition, for better understanding, teacher will also use “situational approach” to help students to learn and on this basis, do some consolidation exercises. Computer, PPT, projector, blackboard, chalks Teaching Procedures 1. Lead in (5min) 1. Teacher will use a story of Little Red Riding Hood to lead in the simple past tense so as to arouse students’ attention and then ask students to find out what kind of tense the story used. Then, teacher will use a poem that associated with the present perfect tense to lead in this part. 2. Presentation (15min) Ask students to observe the sentences in the story and summarize the structure and point out its function. And do the same with the present perfect tense. Create situation—open the door for easy understanding. Then use the example—turn on the light/ turn off the light to compare these two tense to help students comprehend 3. practice (7min) Ask students to finish “True or False” and “chat time” exercise, and then check the answers altogether. 4. production (8min) Retell the story with the help of given words and create a story using the present perfect tense. By this way, students can consolidate the usage of the simple past tense and the present perfect tense 5. Summary and assignment (5min) Make a short summary of the structure and usage of the simple past tense and the present perfect tense. Give both oral and written assignments to the students. Teaching procedures: Part 1: Lead in 1. Teacher tells the story of Little Red Riding Hood(小红帽) and highlights some sentences which contain with the simple past tense, for instance, went, picked, arrived, jumped ,ran, helped, etc. Meanwhile, some pictures about the story will be shown on the screen to attract Ss’ attention. And then ask students to find out what kind of tense the story used. 2. Teacher will use a poem that associated with the present perfect tense to lead in this part. Part 2: Presentation Ask students to observe the sentences in the story and summarize the structure and point out its function. For the present perfect tense part, teacher will create situation(情景 创设)for students to comprehend. Situation: (Teacher opens the door)-- I opened the door just now. (Ask students to look at the state of the door)--The door is open now. Combine the two sentences into one:--- I have 上,have opened 红色字体) opened the door.(将其板书在黑板 Use the example—turn on the light/ turn off the light to compare these two tense to help students comprehend Part 3: Practice First, ask students to do “True or False” exercise to judge whether the sentence is right or wrong. For example: He left home. He has left home for 20 days. I have bought the car for three years. I have received his letter for a month. They have visited most of the universe. Second, ask students to finish the “chat time” exercise, and then check the answers in their group, then in class altogether. Part 4: production First, retell the story with the help of given words and create a story using the present perfect tense. By this way, students can consolidate the usage of the simple past tense and the present perfect tense. Second, work in pairs or group or four, share your experience happened today using the simple past tense and the present perfect tense. Part 5: Summary and assignment Make a short summary of the structure and usage of the simple past tense and the present perfect tense. Give both oral and written assignments to the students.
