Central Idea (Main Goal): How does Ebola affect people, and what are the symptoms? Is there a
cure for the virus?
A. Introduction
Attention Grabber: Have any of you ever been curious or questionable about what Ebola does to
you?
Basic Facts about Ebola:
 Named after the Ebola River in Africa
 The first human case was in 1976
 Most infected areas are in West Africa
 Five Strains: Bundibugyo, Reston, Sudan, Ivory Coast, and Zaire
 Most commonly spread by wild animals like fruit bats

So now you know just some basic information about Ebola, let’s dive deeper into the topic.
B. Body
How does Ebola affect humans?
A.
1. Attacks every organ and tissue in the body except the bones and skeletal
muscles
2. Release proteins that dampen down the immune system response

1. Causes blood clots in the bloodstream, and blood clots don’t let blood go to the
organs of the body
2. Causes red spots on the patient’s skin, and they grow as the disease progresses

1. Causes spontaneous bleeding from needle injections, and rips from the skin
2. Death is caused by huge loss of blood, renal failure, and shock
So, these are just some of the awful things that Ebola can do to you, but that is only if you have
the disease. Now I am going to talk about the symptoms of the disease.
Symptoms of Ebola

1. Fever
2. Strong headaches and joint and muscle pain

1. After first symptoms diarrhea occurs
2. Stomach pains and vomiting

1. Lastly, internal and external bleeding
2. Bleeding can come from the eyes, nose, and tongue
So now that we know about the symptoms of Ebola, let’s talk about a cure.
Is There A Cure For Ebola?

1. Unfortunately, there is no cure
2. Survival is low

1. We are working towards a vaccine
2. Currently there is no vaccine for the disease
C.
1. Americans have taken an experimental drug and have shown to make progress
2. Gives us hope in finding a cure
So, unfortunately there is no cure, but like I said, there is hope for one.
C. Conclusion
So in conclusion, these are the main topics I am interested in relating to Ebola.
