Lying in the southeast of Taitung and the north of Green Island, Lanyu, a
volcano island of about 47.31 square kilometers, is surrounded with a variety of
beautiful coral reefs. The name, “Lanyu”, referring to its abundance of Phalaenopsis,
has many typical natural and cultural resources because of the hot and humid climates,
such as Lanyu Scops Owl, Birdwing butterfly, and aboriginal culture. Ninety percent
of the residents in Lanyu are Yamis (Taos), and their ecological wisdom and flying
fish season are the indispensable parts to attract tourists. However, a big flow of
culture and civilization from the nearby islands has spoilt its primitive landscape and

Named after Mr. Henry R. Luce, a famous initiator of 《Times》and 《Life, Luce

Luce and currently is an ideal place for holding the wedding ceremony. Around the

kilometer high, was built with cramp iron and cement in 1961 winning the title of

is a family hall for worshipping Buddha, the second to fifth floors are the exhibition
rooms for the history of Buddha’s whole life. Along the sides of the sixth floor are

Near my house is the Dou-Liou (斗六)baseball field , which was be built from
2003 to 2005, and can seat 15,000 people. First use on September 11th, the Dou-Liou
baseball field have been offered a great place for more than ten thousand baseball fans
to watch baseball games between Sinon Bulls(興農牛) and Macoto Cobras (誠泰
cobras). People in Dou-Liou believed that the baseball field will be the new landmark
in Yun-Lin for a long time.

As one of the four famous haunted house in Taiwan, the Liu’s Haunted House
in Min – Hsiung maintains countless mysterious and horrible legends. It was built in
1929 as a Spanish style house.
It is always preoccupied by a widely-known story about a servant-girl
committing suicide in the well of the house, whose sudden death was responsible for
the misfortune to the family, a tragic death of a troop of Japanese soldiers, and many
white wisps around the house when darkness comes.

射日塔, a sixty-two-meter tall tower, located in the north-east section of Chiayi
Park, was rebuilt from 嘉義史跡資料館 constructed by Japan. Its position is so
special that it is a place for the native Taiwanese Ping Pu(平埔族) to make
scarification to Gods and ancestors. The style of this building was originated from
A-Li Mountain and decorated by a City Flower in a huge size from the middle to the
left stretching forty meters long. Furthermore, in its entrance is a rarely-seen animal,
the leopard of Taiwan, 200 centimeters tall and also in length, 80 centimeters in width,
made of Qing tong (青銅), representing the guard of Taiwan.

communicate with my roommates. From here you can see what everyone is doing and
who is entering the room.

representative mansion and garden in Taiwan. Although being a famous scenic spot,

My hometown, Dong-Yin, one of the islands of Matsu, is a plain and beautiful
place in northern Taiwan. People, lived in Dong-Yin more than two hundreds, are
extremely friendly and hospitable. As a fairyland of modern, Dong-Yin is famous for
its fine wine, sea food, and such natural landscapes as mountains, grottos, lofty cliffs,
etc. You will not regret to visit such a beautiful and attractive place as Dong-Yin.
