Vocabulary and Access Sheet Year 10 Information Technology and Modern Foreign Languages Assignment 2 Description of the Assignment You are going to work on the Spanish website of the furniture store, IKEA. You have some questions to answer to help you navigate the website and a “diorama” –plan- of your ideal bedroom –either in Word or in PowerPoint. Where to find the information / pictures: http://www.ikea.es (then click on Peninsula) Criteria for successful completion: In order to successfully complete the assignment, check that you have covered the following tasks: Your work contains a title in Spanish Your name appears clearly somewhere on the page The file includes a price list and description of item (name & colour) You have answered the questions on a separate sheet. Your work has been printed out and handed to your teacher. Don’t forget to include accents, using the yellow “how do I type special characters” label on the side of your computer? The Task 1. Write a list of the objects we usually find in the bedroom (check with the vocabulary on http://www.studyspanish.com) 2. Open the website http://www.ikea.es 3. In the box “productos”, click on “camas”. On the right-hand side, click on “ordena tu dormitorio”. Read the advice on how to make the most of the space in your bedroom. Answer the following questions: Slide 1 a. How is the bedroom called? b. What are the most important things? Slide 2 c. Where is the first place mentioned? Slide 5 d. Where could you put cupboard? e. What does this slide talk about ? f. It’s the second time you can read the words for “under your hand” –to have something close at hand-. What is it in Spanish? 4. Click on Inicio and open the page on Niños. Choose articles you may like to put in your own bedroom. c. Click on Inicio and open the page on El concepto Ikea. Answer these questions in Spanish or English (follow the order of the section on the left-hand side). o What is the reason for Ikea’s “obsession for plat packets”? o “Why do you have the option to transport your furniture yourself?” o Why is most of the furniture in kit to be put up on your own? Once you’re finished, click on “Salir”. 5. Create your file. Now, in PowerPoint (or if you prefer in Word*), create a diorama of your ideal bedroom (or study room, kitchen,,,). How to do it? Start by clicking on the drop-down menu entitled “productos”. Choose one list (i.e. camas to choose a bed for your bedroom) Choose the items : (“camas altas y literas”). To import a specific picture from the website to your file, either hover the mouse over the picture and click the floppy icon to save it on your area; or put your mouse on the very far left of the object, click and hover the mouse (the item should change colour indicating it is selected), right-click and select copy. Go back to your file and import the picture. Repeat this operation until the picture of your bedroom is completed (don’t forget about the colours and pricelist –your parents might be interested?) Ideas: how about include a kitchenette in your bedroom or a sofa? Students who find a telephone in this shop will get a credit! N.B: if you use PowerPoint, animate the objects for a lively presentation (and add labels –colour and prices (in Euros)–for each items). Extension: on the last slide of your Powerpoint presentation, write a list of the items, include the colour you want, and its price. Vocabulario: ¿Qué significa … ?
