Test Specifications

READING

Three passages

50 % or more passages will be informational

All reading passages will require students to read and comprehend at the higher level of text complexity for their grade level.

All reading items will present questions that address

CCSS strands: Key Ideas & Details, Craft & Structure

Same 4 point rubric will be used.

Constructed response questions will measure the CCSS for Lit. & Inform. texts

ELA

Students are expected to ground responses in specific evidence and info from texts they have read, film, shows, or facts learned

Are not to invent except when writing narratives

Expected to comprehend and accurately use grade appropriate general academic and domain specific words

WRITING

2 writing tasks (1) Narrative (2) Informative/

Explanatory OR Opinion

Same 5 point rubric used.

Field test items will be included.

Poem prompt will not be read aloud to students

Examiners will no longer have a test booklet, unless testing SE w/ specific accom.

MATH

CCSS will be assessed in the 5 domains (OA, NBT, NF, MD, G)

Test structure/ format is the same

Can use blank grid/ graph paper during ALL parts

NO colored shapes for grades 3 & 4

Grade 3 will have ¼” and mm ruler

Grade 4 will have 1/8” and mm ruler AND protractor

Grade 5 will have 1/8” and mm ruler AND formula/ conversion sheet

SCR only require answer

Units of measure are NOT necessary

Credit only given for correct answer

SCR are worth 1 point each

Scoring of responses will reflect the degree to which students refer to or incorporate pertinent text based ideas and info in work.

Students will respond to writing prompts based on a short text (two-three sentences to one paragraph) and will supplement their responses by using facts from text

2013 NJ ASK writing section will not include a longer reading passage (multiple paragraphs) that students would read and draw evidence from to support their writing

SCIENCE

4 parts

MC worth 1 point

OE up to 3 points and each OE item will be scored using an item specific rubric

Life Science 40%, Physical Science 30 %, Earth Science 30%

NO manipulative sheet for Grades 6 & 7

Reference sheet for 6 & 7 will include a punch out protractor and a punch out ruler to supplement the formulas and conversion factors.

Grade 8 reference sheet will now include a punch out protractor to supplement ruler, formula and conversion factors.

Updated reference sheets will be available online shortly

Part 1: NO Calculators (reg or SE students)

Part 2 & 3: NO calculators (reg students only) SE with a specific disability that limits from calculating mathematically may use a calculator or manipulative

Se use of calculators must be in alternate setting. Use of calculator/ manipulative MUST be documented ion

IEP/ 504

Parts 4-6: Calculator active, include MC and ECR items

SCR part will remain non calculator

SCIENCE

4 parts
