4. Applicant Qualifications

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

(1) Those who are strongly eager to enroll at GSAPS Waseda University as their first choice.

(2) Those who possess Chinese nationality (including Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Macao).

(3) Those who expect to graduate in September 2011 from one of Waseda University's specified partner universities (Fudan University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Zhejiang University, Tongji University,

Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, National Taiwan University, National Chengchi University,

National Chiao Tung University, National Cheng Kung University, National Sun Yat-sen University, and

National Tsing Hua University). Please note that those who graduated from the above Taiwanese universities in June 2009 or later and are expected to complete their careers of military service by the time of admission will be considered as new graduates.

(4) Those who are under 30 years old as of their expected enrollment date

(5) Those who have their GPA of 3.4 or equivalent (a 4.0 scale) between first semester of freshmen year and second semester of junior year at one of the universities listed on (3)

(6) Those who have either language skill below

Screening Method

The decision whether to accept or reject will be determined based on the all the required documents submitted (first screening) and interviews by telephone or e-mail (Second Screening).

Applicants who are not awarded this scholarship will be considered for admissions as privately-financed international students during the general admissions screening of September 2011 entrance for the GSAPS MA

Program. Applicants are required to indicate their intention if they wish to enter GSAPS as privately-financed international students in the "Application Form for Ting Hsin International Group, Tinghyi (Cayman Islands)

Holding Corporation Scholarship for September 2011 Admissions"(designated form).

6. Selection Schedule

February 7 (Mon) –

Application period (Application must be reached to the GSAPS Admissions

February 14 (Mon), 2011 Office by Feb. 14.)

March 7 (Mon), 2011or later ・ Results of the first screening sent to the applicant by e-mail or EMS.

*Notification for the Second Screening sent to applicants who pass the first

Second Screening

Interview by phone or e-mail

*Second screening conducted for applicants who pass the first screening.

*Second screening date will be assigned between Mar. 9 and Mar. 15 by GSAPS.

After the second screening date is fixed, the detailed information will be notified to applicants who pass the first screening.

*The documents for entrance procedure for the GSAPS MA Program will be sent to applicants who are selected as scholarship recipients by post-mail.

7. Application Fee

Application fee JPY 35,000 is required. Please pay the application fee within the designated application period ( Feb.

7 to Feb. 14, 2011). Application fee should be paid through overseas banking institutions. Please refer below for the payment of the application fee through overseas banking institutions. A photocopy of the Application for the

Telegraphic Transfer of Application Fee must be enclosed with the rest of the application documents after remitting the fee.

Please submit a certificate of expected graduation issued by college/university in which the applicant is currently enrolled.

* Male Taiwanese applicants who graduated from one of the eligible universities in June 2009 or later and then participated in military service should submit their certificate of graduation from their home university and documents of proof of having undergone military service.

5. Official Transcript (GPA of 3.4 or equivalent out of a 4.0 scale) (original)

Applicant is required to submit an official transcript showing that GPA from the first semester of freshmen year to the second semester of junior year was at 3.4 or equivalent out of a 4.0 scale. If the original transcript is written in a language other than Japanese or English, it must be accompanied by its Japanese or English translation issued by a public institution.

Notes on application

In principle, documents will not be returned once submitted. However, original certificate which cannot be reissued may be returned only when a written request by the designated format, "Request Form for Return of

Submitted Materials"(designated form) is submitted together with its photocopy at the time of application. Please notice that if "Request Form for Return of Submitted Materials" is not submitted together with the application documents, the documents will not be returned regardless of any special circumstances on the part of the applicant.

・ All the application documents must be completed in Japanese or English. If documents are written in other languages, certified translation must accompany.

・ Applicants are requested to notify the GSAPS Admissions Office at the earliest convenience if there are any changes on the information regarding address, telephone number or e-mail address in the application documents after submitting application at gsaps@list.waseda.jp.

・ If there is any falsification found in any of the documents presented for application, admission will be revoked. In some cases, the GSAPS Admissions office may contact the institution(s) that issued the certificates.

・ Applicants are requested to make arrangements of travel and accommodation for the screening on their own.

・ If a physical disability requires a special consideration when taking the entrance examination or study at GSAPS, please inquire the GSAPS Admissions Office prior to submitting an application. If a serious illness or injury makes it difficult to take the screening even after submitting an application, please notify the GSAPS Admissions

Office at the earliest convenience.

9. School Expenses, Scholarships, etc.

(1)Grantees selected for this scholarship will be exempted from entrance fee, tuition fees, educational environment improvement and experiments fee while they enroll at the GSAPS MA program up to a maximum of 24 months. However, fees/expenses to take courses which are not required toward graduation of the GSAPS MA program must be borne by each grantee.

(2) Applicants for this scholarship are not allowed to apply to other scholarships including ones offered by both

Waseda University and other institutions such as Japanese Government simultaneously.

(3) An allowance of 1,500,000 Japanese yen per year will be provided as living expenses.

(4) Evaluation to keep enjoying the second -year scholarship will be conducted based on the academic performance at the end of first year of grantees. The second-year scholarship may not be granted to

the grantees with poor academic performance.

(5) Flight tickets and other travel expenses when coming to Japan shall be borne by each grantee and will not be borne by Waseda University.

(6) Waseda University will provide successful grantees with information regarding accommodation in

Japan. Grantees under the scholarship program shall arrange their own accommodation in Japan and will be responsible for the payment of the rent of their own accommodation.

10. Notes on Entrance Examination

<Act of Dishonesty>

Waseda University has provided the following guidelines so that all examinations can be properly administered and all applicants have opportunities to perform in a fair and equitable environment. Please read the guidelines carefully and approach the examination in a serious manner.

(1) The followings may be considered an act of dishonesty: a) Cheating (Glancing at a cheat sheet, reference book, or another applicants' answer sheet and gaining answers from others) b) Providing benefits to other applicants by telling them answers, etc. during the examination c) Keeping a mobile phone during the examination d) Beeping a mobile phone or watch (incoming call alert, alarm, vibration, etc.) during the examination e) Disturbing other applicants at an examination venue f) Not following instructions by a supervisor of the examination at an examination venue g) Pretending to be an applicant and taking the examination for the applicant h) Conducting any kind of acts impairing the fairness of the examination

(2). The following actions may be taken if an applicant is suspected of committing an act of dishonesty. a) A supervisor of the examination may warn or question the applicant. b) The applicant may be requested to take the examination in another room.

(3). The following actions may be taken if an act of dishonesty is identified. a) The applicant may be disqualified to continue to take the entrance examination or may be disqualified to take any other entrance examination at Waseda University during the same academic year.

(Application fee will not be refunded in this case.) b) The results of all entrance examinations at Waseda University that the applicant takes during the s same academic year may be invalid.

<Environment for entrance examination >

Waseda University will do our best to secure a fair and quiet environment for entrance examinations, but the following actions may be taken under unavoidable circumstances. a) In principle, special measures will not be taken against daily life noise (such as the so und of airplanes, vehicles, wind, rain, and air conditioners; coughs, sneezes, and sniffle by examinees; or sound of mobile phones, etc.) b) If a mobile phone, watch or other device rings, vibrates or causes noises during the examination and the

source of the sound, vibration or noise is identified, a supervisor of the examination may take it out of the examination venue without the consent of its owner and may keep it at Examination Headquarters. c) No considerations will be given for a difference of the t ype of desks, chairs, air conditioners, sound facilities, etc. prepared at each examination venue. d) An applicant may be requested to take the examination in another room when the applicant disturbs other applicants.

< Uncontrollable accidents, etc.>

If natural disasters, such as typhoons, earthquakes, floods, or tidal waves, and other uncontrollable accidents, such as fire or power failure, have occurred, special measures may be taken including delaying the start time of the examination or postponing the examination. However, Waseda University will not assume any responsibilities for applicants’ inconvenience, costs, and other personal disadvantage associated with the measures.

Treatment of Personal Information

Waseda University uses personal information on applicants, such as their addresses, names and dates of birth, collected at the time of application in order to provide services such as entrance screening, announcement of the results and entrance procedures. Necessary and proper measures will be taken to protect such personal information from leakage, disclosure or unauthorized use. Waseda University may provide such information to trusted businesses or persons for the sole purpose of processing the above services. When this is done, it is subject to agreements that oblige those parties to process such information in compliance with appropriate confidentiality.
